I purchased a 2006 2500 HD LBZ in May.I enjoy the truck but styling with the small stock tires had to go.In October of last year I increased the torsion bar load to gain an extra 2" of clearance on the front of the truck which leavled the truck out nicely.I then purchased BFG A/T 285/75/16 tires and had them installed on the factory rims.

I was very happy with the look of the truck once this was complete. The only draw back was when they balanced the tires they ended up using large amounts of external weight to true the wheels.I also had a problem with loosing these weights and lost the first one 100 yards from the shop.

I also live in a area were the roads are salted and sanded to keep them clear in the winter months. This combination likes to get behind the wheel weights and then destroys the clear coat finish on the factory aluminum wheels.

I then read about innovative balancings Dyna Bead system that balances the wheels internaly. So this way I could take the wheel weights off and hopefully save the finish on my wheels.

I followed there sizing chart and ordered there system. For my tire size they called for 4oz per tire for a highway type tires or 6oz for an aggressive tread tire(mud?).So I split the differance and ordered 5oz for each tire.

Once it all arrived I set to work installing them.
To do this on our own you will need a good floor jack and a compressor.
I took one wheel at a time off, washed it with soap and water and moved it into the shop to work on.

Once in the shop remove the valve stem from the tire.Be careful becouse the stem will pop out under pressure. After the tire is empty remove all the weights trying not to damage the finish on the wheel.I used a scribe which worked well since its small tip would fit under the weight clamp and the taper would lift the weight away from the rim

Now the fun part:) lay the tire on a work surface that gets the valve stem as vertical as possible. Now empty the beads in to the applicator bottle being careful not spill beads all over the place. With that done thread the tube onto the valve, hook up you bottle full of beads and your good to go.

I tried all the tricks in the instructions to make the beads flow faster but I found tapping the tube with a box end wrench worked the best for me.But still it is slow(took about 10minutes to empty the bootle).
Once I had the beads in I reinstalled the valve stem and took the time to put a good coat of wax on the front and rear of the rim.If you find any damage to your clear coat a touch of clear nail polish seals it up nicely.I also anti seized the center holes and the mounting surface on the back of the wheel to keep things from sticking in the future.

Reinflate the tire to is original pressure install back on the truck and torque to 140 foot pounds.

I ended up with almost 23oz of external weights once I was done.

Since the install I`ve run the truck up to highway speeds and its smooth as glass. The wheels look alot better now that all the weights are gone.It was a tedious job be I`m happy with the results

Thanks TOM

Kewl , happy to hear it works . One thing I would like to tell you about also there is a tire to rim bead seal that keeps the salt out , so the tire bead does not corrode.I am trying to get it myself , I think it would save us a lot of head aches in the near future .

I've been running Dyna Beads in my Blizzaks all winter and they run smooth as glass, even when loaded up with ice and gunk. I did leave my weights on, but they were pretty well balanced when installed with only a few ounces on each.

I have dyna beads on my tires and like the results but agree.....it takes forever to get em in.....especially if the valve stem clogs on ya and you have to unclog it with a paper clip or small drill bit  But I like the function and look of no wheel weights!

23 oz of weights seems like a lot even spread over 4 tires.. It would be interesting to see these or any of these tires after 20 or 25k mile running these beads to see how they wear !! arm

I Got hosed being Canadian and having to deal with all the shipping and broker fees. But I think they were in the low $30 US range for 4 bags of 5oz beads.

ARM

I thought the same thing.I think they had the young guy do it.An experianced installer would have worked it out better.I`ve run these tires on other trucks and had no were near that kind of balancing weight.

The web site www.dynabeads.com say 4 oz to a 16" rim.

you can do the same thing with air soft pellets.

and you don't have to fight pushing the beads in, just break the outer bead and dump them. air it back up and done. ;)

usually very simple to break the outer bead. just take the valve core out to let all the air out and then worst case is drive over the edge with something.

it's actually quite easy and will probably save some time.

Not that you care NOW, but the reason you were losing wheel weights is cause they used the WRONG KIND. Our factory aluminum rims have an outside edge just like a steel rim, so they should have used STEEL WHEEL weights and not the big wide aluminum wheel weights. You can clearly see in your second pic how poorly the weights "grip" the rim.
