After totaling my 04.5 lly and purchasing 07 lbz, I removed my dual alt. setup and installed it on my 07. First thing i had to do was purchase a 145 amp alt. Everything went together perfectly. The belt i put on was gm part number 97300655 (3455 mm) and it was a bear to put on. That being, it was short and i had to pry it on with screwdriver. After doing some research i found out part number 97300657 (3476mm) is 21mm longer and got it today. I realize this is less than one inch difference but i dont want to put too much stress on the bearings on the alts or the idlers. I also found out some of the new alternators use a small two prong connector instead of the longer four prong connector. I am working with alt company to find the new connector. Meantime i made connector and hooked alt up to the gray wire that turns on primary alt and everything is working. I isolated each alt and each is putting out 14.4 volts. Looking at that new lbz with dual 145 alts is a real kick. Knowing it is putting out 290 amps is kick arse. I got my parts from gmparts direct and list from previous post here on the forum.
Thanks to all your info, insight and help.

Stupid question but why the need for dual alternators? I can understand if it were on say a plow truck or something like that which uses alot of juice. I'm just trying to understand why some one would install 2 alts thats all.

Cool, I notice your original alt is the updated clutched one. The second one isn't. When turning the truck off does it squeek now??

You know, I didnt know it was a clutched alternator, even tho i had thought it might and mentioned it to one of my employees.. no it doesnt squeek, even tho my 04 lly did. It probably doesnt squeek because the belt is so tight. I have a slightly longer belt i will be installing, weather and time permitting.
How can you tell it is clutched?
Answer to question of why two alts. Only because i am the kind of guy that doesnt like to look at the empty space where a second alt goes. It is male ego only. the 145 stock is more than sufficient but if the jones have a bigger house, the smiths are house huntin.
I have complete list of parts for anyone below:
) Second alt bracket: 97212348
2) Idler pulley: 97233352
3) Idler pulley bolt: 11515769
4) Alt upper mounting bolt: check with dealer
5) New Bracket to engine bolt same as above
6) Alt lower mounting to engine bolt 11516360
7) Alt 4 position connector (for use with OEM alternators only) 1530071*
8) Fusible link for alt output 15321209
9)Alternator (get same as your primary)
10) Belt 97300655 for dual 105, 97300657 for dual 145
*If you purchase an alternator with the new style 2 position connector, do not purchase this 4 position connector. Some of the newer alternators have a two pin connector. I am searching for the 2-pin connector, since my secondary alt has the two pin connector. I will post that when i find it.
meanwhile i disassembled the 4-pin connector and stuck the needed connector on the field pin. I followed the gray wire from the primary alt and spliced into the wire to excite the secondary alt. now they both work all the time.

When you look at the front of the alt pully you can't see the nut. There is a plastic covering it. That is how I knew it was the updated one. Only reason I know is I've had the stocker where you can see the nut changed for the clutched one covered..

I am curious why 2 as well? Why not just send the one in and get it redone? I forget how high they can run it.. but to me it makes more sense than 2... though two look cool.. :D

hotrent1, Thanks for the information and the parts list for the 2nd alternator installation.

One more question - Do you have a wiring diagram for this installation?

Thanks again.
