Has anyone had any experience with these? Not talking about stock paper. AEM has a setup that doesn't use oil iin the filter. Wondering how these are for filtration? Thanks.

fieldoc,

They are gaining popularity, BUT they will flow less and let in slightly more dirt as compared to a Pro Guard 7 AFE filter. Plus there are different ypes of no oil media, AFE's has a higher tolerance in it and it stops more dirt than other brands currently on the market. I was out there a few weeks ago and saw flow testing dtat that had been done on all types/brands of filters and you still have to be cautious as to what type of dry media you get. If you have any questions on the AFE let me know, we should have some here in the near future as we ordered a looong time ago, we know AFE's reputation and knew theirs would be a better designed product than others on the market so we ordered even prior to final design stages.

yea but afe's "dry filter" is only their last 2 layers in their 7 layer filter. i'd say go with AEM they were the first to come out with it and from what i hear they've had zero problems with it. and of course it's cheaper.

fordh8ter,

No not the same thing at all. AFE has the PG7 which is a 7 layer filter, the 1st 5 layers are a progressively smaller weave medical grade gauze that is cross stacked to make the air turn thru the material (other brands use the same dimension gauze all the way thru and stack them so that the holes align, creating a tunnell effect, this lets waaay too much dirt thru) then they have 2 layers of a randon weave poly material. This nets you excellent flow and no dirt!! The new AFE Pro Dry S no oil filters use a completely different media than PG7 and are close to the dirt stopping ability but the PG 7 still filters dirt the best. The standard AFE media is the previousley mentioned 5 layers in the PG7 without the final 2 random woven poly layers, FYI. does better than any 4 or 5 layer filter media out there as they again use a progressively smaller opening in the layers of media and then the cross stack it so the air has to turn as it goes thru the layers. Any questions just call us.

Mark, If that is true does that mean that the dry filters let in more dirt than stock and flow how compared to stock. I farm and am in alot of dust conditions so need exc filtration w/o oil filters and seems to me the amsoil nanofiber is an exc filter as is based on the same filter as the donaldson powercore for the powerstrokes? Also is anyone running the UMP setup and if so how do you like it and how in the world do you get them to call you back? Thanks.

fieldoc,

You need the PG7 and need to deal with the cleaning process and oil then!! The no oil (dry) filters will not perform as well at stopping dirt as an oiled filter. The Amsoil/Donaldson do a great job stopping dirt, but be aware they do NOT last as long as they say without a significant restriction and they are more restrictive than a stock paper filter is very shortly after you install them etc. So cost vs dirt the PG7 is the best alternative for you, if you don't want to do that then stay stock and use a PG7 filter for the stock air box.
By the way the oil is really not a big deal as you don't service it very often anyway, and if you plan ahead and do it late in the day and let the filter dry overnite then just reoil and install and you're OK to go.
