So, i recieved my new airbox from a member, and I need to get a few parts to compete the installation. Can anyone that has done the upgrade, do i need part number 7, or does the one from the 96 box work?

I did the change a couple of months ago and you will need the #7 they arn't the same, however I just lined things up and used metal screws into the fender to hold the airbox housing in place. A word of advice when you get a air filter there are two sizes of 97+ air filters and air box a heavy duty and light duty slightly smaller filter but still much more filter material area than the flat stlye of filter. I bought the heavy duty filter and couldn't get it to fit in the light duty housing.

I bought the box off of a member, and it came with the heavy filter.
Does the lid of your box tell you "use A1306C for severe dust conditions"? I might have the heavy duty box.

If that's true, then the "S" and "F" airboxes may be different due to the MAF on the "S" systems

I did the change also. All I did is use the one hole that does line up and it seems to hold up just fine. Not like its a high stress point. I think you can do without it.

Just my .02

I ended up paying $100 for the entire setup from a member minus $30 in parts I just bought from GMpartsdirect. The real kicker that made me spring was that he bought all parts brand new and never installed them.

My air box (small one ) says use 1300c or 1306c for severe duty. I'm presently running the Napa Gold 6441 heavy duty filter, but can't install the top so before it gets hot I will buy the 6440 light duty filter so I can use the cold inlet in the fender. The light duty is 6.5" dia. and is rated cfm of 250 the heavy duty is 7.25 dia. and is also rated for 250cfm they are both 11.12" long. The flat style air filter is only rated for 100cfm according to the NAPA filter guide so even the small filter is a huge improvement.

After I get it installed and run through the stock filter for a while, I will get one of the new Amsoil absolute filters.

Seeing that yours states that, I may have the small box also. Does anyone know the part numbers that are on the inside of the lid?

Does anyone have a 6.5 "F" airbox to sell?

Hi guys,

I'd like to replace the stock OEM air box. Does anyone have a complete setup to sell?

Sincerely,

Rob :)

I have one of the flat panel setups I could part with, but you are probably looking for the cone style setup.

Thanks Jacob,

You are correct, I am looking for a complete "cylindrical F-Style air box setup, 96 and later.

Sincerely,

Rob :)

Just found this thread and haven't heard of this modification - what would be the benefits of my changing out the air box and flat-style filter on my 96 to the later air box and cylindrical-style filter? I'm guessing better airflow and possibly better filtration?

There is more surface area on the cylindrical filter than te flat panel. It will increase in airflow.

do you need the rubber elbow from the turbo, because other than the turbo muffler and the filter change indicator, they do look a little different.
