My cat shell is there but no internals, had a pipe run through it. If the dealer knew that he would more a likely void the warranty.

warrenty

Before I put my cat back system on, I asked my dealer about cat removal. He said a cat back would void the exhaust system warrenty. If I remove the cat, it would void the engine warrenty. I know that GM has a cat delete pipe, they say it's for "off-road" only, which according to my dealer WILL void warrenty. IMHO the dealer would have to prove that the missing cat caused the oil leak to void the warrenty.

yup, i brough mine in for the injector harness and they said "you don't have a cat on there!" i said yea so... what does that have to do with my injectors. he said nothing but...

don't worry about it just take it in. remember if you change your exhaust they are only gonna void your factory exhaust warranty not the engine.

The dealer is not empowered to void the emissions warranty. I believe they are bound by EPA regs to honor it. If you experienced an emissions related problem that required some warranty work...and your cat is missing...they are required to report you to the EPA. Then you will be fined and required to return the vehicle to its stock form. Once you have returned the vehicle to stock the emissions warranty will be in effect until end of the normal warranty period...something like 150,000 miles?

As far as the regular powertrain warranty....I doubt the tech would even notice the missing cat.

warranty

I have asked my dealer the same thing about warranty and exhuast. They said that a cat back exhuast won't void the warranty unless they have determined that it is causing problems. Knowing the dealerships though, they would probably blame something like a radio going out on a modified exhuast just to get out of the warrenty work.

That would be good, but once the vehicle visits the dealership, it is entered into the GM datra bank, which all dealers can get into. They will list what they have found.

Dealers get paid to do warranty work they may tell you the removal of the cat will void your warranty just to keep you from removing it. By law a dealer cannot deny you warranty on anything accept the actual part that has been modified or removed. If removing your cat caused another part to fail then that part will not be covered not the whole truck. Not covering something under warranty doesnt benefit the dealer they get paid to do the work. If a dealer makes you pay for something that should be covered I would check and see if they filed a warranty claim and got paid twice. Some dealers have been caught doing this.

My dealer really liked my exhaust. No prob whatsoever. We discussed a cat removal and their only comment was not much gain and the probs with the engine light due to the egr difference. Not "we will void your warrantee".
If they deny your warranty for anything not related to the cat, they are just throwing away an income source.

When I took my truck in without the cat, I looked in the service bay and saw about 4 guys under my truck looking at the exhaust. I thought I was smoked, but they never said a thing, I also had my Power Pup on at the time, that was fine too.
