I have not drove my 03 Dmax in about 2 months, as it has been sitting in the cold garage waiting for spring. Last nite I tried to start her up, but the Batteries were dead. I tried to jump it, the proper way, but I guess I didn't have enough juice comin from the other truck. I pulled the batt's out and threw them on the charger overnite. One charged quickly, the other took a bit longer. Both are orginal with 100k on them. And again, they have been sitting for 2 months. After I installed the recharged batt's, the truck fired right up, but the cluster was dean besides the DIC. I read post that if you have weak batteries, this can cause it. BUT, it seems in most cases they would start working after a short time or a stop\restart. Mine were dead the entire way to the dealer. Never came back on at all. They think its the cluster and want to send it out. I know that the window in the Batt were BLACK, even after the charge. Are the batteries my problem? I thought that after a FRESH charge and a 30 min ride to the dealer they're should be enough power to get the voltage up 2 where the Cluster would start back up. I left a message for the dealer to Hold up until they hear from me in the morning. I know I'll get the right answer here!!!!! Thanks

Same thing happened to me this morning in the work truck. It was between -20 to -30 below last night (windchill) anyways when I started her up this morning they did work first red light I got to I shut the truck off then started her back up and everything was fine... I just chalked it up as low battery and the cold

Have the batteries tested first. If they are OK then the cluster could be bad. Odds are the slow charging battery is bad and once you get new batteries your cluster will work again. We hope...:D

Mine did the same thing. It turned out to be bad batteries ( 4-years old) plus a 0 degree morning. The cluster does this if it senses the voltage is too low. So a failing battery and a cold morning with the preheater on can trigger this. There is a flash from the dealer to fix this. However I personally like it as an early warning to change the batteries.

Now that I have new batteries there is no problem. If I hadn't changed the batteries I probably would have gotten stuck as I went to Fargo ND and it was -20 in the morning.

BTW if the cluster still does not work after shutting off the ignition and restarting. Try disconnecting both batteries for about 15 minutes, then reconnecting them. That resets the cluster and it works again.

This same thing happened to me this morning. I remote started my truck(it was around 3 below) and let it run for 10 or so mins before leaving. I go out to it and no gauges. All the cluster lights work(cruise, OD lockout, mileage etc) but not one of the orange needles move. Man was I PO'd since first thought is that they're broken and need replacing. Anyhow read a few threads, put it on the charger and guess what, good as new.

Next few days are supposed to be single digit highs with double digit negative lows. Guess I'll be buying new batteries soon.
