Have a 2002 GMC, the light tan interior. Yesterday a piece of the tan coloring flaked off the dash near the passenger side handle above the air bag. Although it’s aggravating to have happen, it’s small, and IF it doesn’t grow, I will ignore. Question is will it. How do I prevent more flaking from the original spot, and/or how do I repair. I guess the tan coloring is painted, I assumed until now it was an impregnated color. It’s black underneath.

I've been retired for 3 years, so things may be differnt now, but when I worked in the plant all the plastic trim pieces were colored all the way through.

GMT800 IP uppers and trim plates are PCABS with a soft-touch paint applied to match color. Sorry to hear your issue. You may want to touch it with a bit of nail polish or something to stop it if it decides to grow...

All the colors other than the dark grey are "painted on" like mentioned above. I've replaced only a couple in the last few years but it doesn't suprise me much. It only takes a tiny nick to get a spot like that started. If it's under warranty, take it back to the dealer and let them decide whether to replace it or refinish it. If it's not under warranty, check you yellow pages for interior dye specialists and ask them what they think.

He was lucky and still had warranty. Took it in and replaced it, no ??'s ask as far as i know...Dont know if he ever got a reasoning behind either...

I've got the graphite interior and over a year ago i had a spot on my dash blister up like someone melted it with a torch. Took it to the dealer (still under warranty)and they said area rep had to look at it. Area rep insisted that i spilt something on it or placed something on the spot and refused to fix it. Needless to say the area rep got to know what i thought of him. I called gm customer service and complained and they told me" the area reps are our eyes and ears out in the field" and " well its just cosmetic so its not really a great concern". Could you imagine what i thought of that.

I did not want a new dash, which they told me would have been $3k, all i wanted was it fixed, which i was told it could be done with ease and cost $100. Since that day i have not been back to that dealer as they would not back me up, even though i got all my work done there. BTW my dash is black under the crappy graphite paint. Yes i'm still bitter about it too.

My wife's 01 Tahoe had the same bubbles apear on her tan dash about a year after we bought it. Took it to our dealer and they replaced the dash no problems. It makes me mad to here about all these people who pay $40000 for a new vehicle and then get crap from dealer or factory when somthing legit goes wrong. This is the reason why a chysler product will never sit in my driveway again. I have purchased 8 new vehicles from my local chevy in the last 4 years and have never had any issues with service repairs, they just take care of it.

Same issue, same color, only the center of dash. I think it now looks like a great place to mount a LCD screen so I can watch DVD's on those long trips.

I have a dark grey interior, and I have a paint chip on mine by the instrument cluster. It's black under the paint chip. My dark grey one is painted...

yep......... Graphite interior's are painted on also. At delivery there was some sticky residue from a sticker on my lower dash near the passengers leg area. I took a cloth and wiped it with some bathroom cleaner thinking that would take the residue off....... NOPE. It took the paint off instead
It's a cost issue for GM. They are cheaper to paint than to have each one dyed properly.

You can buy the color matched paint at a good automotive paint supply store.

I have a dark gray also that peeled by the grab handle.Found a detailer that detailes trade ins at car lots, and he said he touches them up all the time.Looks like new and cost $75.He said that it is a water base"dye" that is used, and if wrong material is used it can make it a LOT worse.

I had a 99 Gmc Serria and the same thing happen to me. They kept my truck for two days trying to repain the dash. They could not repaint it so they ordered me a new one. I took my truck in early on the day I had the appointment to have the dash replaced. Went by at the end of the day and they had not touched it. I went to the owner and handed him the dash and told him if he ever saw me there again he could kick my ass. Went to another dealer that I do business with and got it replace when promise.

I forgot to say that was my third bad experience with that dealer. There are other places to buy GM .</TD></TR>
