Hi guy's.I am new to the duramax, but not chevs,or diesels, had many.I bought a crashed 02 3500 4x4 dually.4dr,69m ali trans, all stock,Hit rt ft not too hard, srs bags did go boom, but frame and suspenion were not damaged, damage was rt ft bumper, hood, fender, headlight, grill, batt brakets, radiator core support,radiator,cac,a/c condensor, air cleaner, air cleaner snorkel is ripped a little at intake, mass air flow sensor "looks" ok and is plugged into snorkle, all other electrics look ok and plugged except for headlights and signals"i think". I see an e.c.u.that was connected to rad schruod"looks" ok.engine cranks over fast...like not much compresion, and tackometer does not move.On my 7.3 "flamesuit on"cam position sensor is the first thing, almost the only thing? besides an e.c.u. that will cause this situation.am i wrong to think that no fuel will equal less compresion, does the duramax fire injectors from the cps,i think all diesels do.Am i looking in the right direction? I would appreciate any help, and thank you in advance for any advice given, sorry for the long wind, and i don't mind a little poke at my powerjoke,slow.3,powerstrokin ect.thanks again:eek: :Handshake

I did remove black cap on pass side frt of engine, brass shcrader or other fitting, pressed 3or 4 times after cranking each time, please tell me of this primming procedure,i don't think i am getting fuel??,does your tach not move till your engine starts..and thank you very much for your help!your picture of your truck looks goooood!!!

My tach on my 02 does not move until the engine starts. First, with your key removed, check that the "SECURITY" message is flashing with the door open, then turn your key to the On/Run position and look to see if the "SECURITY" message is on steady or flashing. If it is, then you have a problem with your pass-key system, and the fuel system will be disabled. There is a 30 minute program procedure to reset. Ask me for the procedure and I will PM them to you if you need them. Otherwise, check for blown/missing fuses under the hood and in the left side of the dash.

I am sure this has fuel shut off switch and if in wreck might have triggered switch off, find where it is at and reset.

update

hi guy's,I checked fuel filter, found primer, primed, tried to start,no,twisted water ? drain,no fuel, closed it,primed, twisted open bottom valve again, couple oz came out, closed, primed,no start, primed, twisted bottom valve again, couple oz diesel came out again, looks like good fuel, should all fluid from filter come out this drain, like a beer can or more!12 oz or so,its looseing its prime as you called it,.security system seems ok,like discribed, open door, light flashes, key into ignition, on pos, light goes off, crank for about 10 to 12 seconds and the light comes back on solid,no flash.probably normal reaction from security system?????no it should be able to keep crankin??repeated several times.removed lower dash cover.found alarm harness, disconected from module by the "crashie".I finished off his job, removed it from all scotch locks,no longer exists.looked for relays to ignition, none, found his started kill switch, removed it,didn't start again.I looked for fuel pump, can't find,is it in tank.bottom line not getting fuel,,,,ground for fuel pump comes from e.c.u.!!!e.c.u. fires injectors,,,,,e.c.u. is told by crank or cam sesor when to fire! security system, or fuel reset seem to be culprit,or pluged fuel filter.I will scan it next couple days i hope,i'll also find about any fuel reset,i know ford uses them, pass side in trunk, these are very well enginered "not a suck up" I own a body shop.worked on many fords, this truck is easy to work on,and seems much better built.still going to keep my 7.3 to beat on, and hope i like the chev even more when it starts!

Heres the procedure to prime the fuel system right out of the service manual:

1: Open the vent valve by turning the screw counterclockwise several full turns
2: Operate the priming pump until a small amount of fuel seeps from the vent valve. allow the pump to return upwards between pumps. When fuel is present, the filter is full of fuel and the system should be primed.
3: Close the vent valve.
4: Clean any fuel which accumulated on the fuel filter.
5: Start the engine and allow it to idle for a few minutes.
6: Check the filter for leaks

If you get fuel to come out of the vent, then I would bet that your problem is the injectors not getting the signal to operate.
Unless you have dual tanks, there is no electrical fuel pump. The injector pump is the fuel pump. The security disables the injectors. I am not aware of any fuel reset on the Silverado like the Fords have. I will do some checking on the security light coming on after cranking (I am not sure if that is normal). I would be suspicious of the alarm that was removed. While you were under the dash, did you see a black plastic box located just under the column? That is the BCM (body control module). See if the 3 plugs that go to it got dislodged from the crash too. The BCM has to communicate with the PCM and other systems in order to get the injectors going. If the BCM got damaged, or is not getting the passlock signal, the truck will crank, but not start.

I read the service manual to see about security light being on after you crank the engine. The only thing I see is that there is a malfuntion if the sucurity light stays steady on after an ignition cycle. Maybe another member knows if cranking without starting constitutes an ignition cycle. It wouldn't hurt to try to reprogram the BCM passlock. You will know if the programming worked after the procedure. I will PM you the instructions. My truck always starts after 2 or 3 seconds, so I can't say whether or not the security light would come on if it didn't start, but I don't think it would.
