Yeah its a big o-ring seal in there. Just work it gently side to side to get the oring to release. You can take the oil fill neck off and see the pump shaft and nut in the hole. i think I stuck a big screwdriver in there and pryed gently on the nut/shaft so your pushing in the middle. Make sure you have all the correct bolts out. There were some down there that looked the same diameter as the pump bolts but they were for other stuff.
 
Torque the nut correctly on reassembly and use a bit of locktight on the nut that holds the gear to the shaft. Dont hurt. Grease the oring good before reassembly. You have to hold your tongue right to get it back in and its pretty heavy when you cant really get a good grip on it in the valley.
