Hello! For this engine is it suggested to check the oil level cold or while hot? For my project truck. If I remember correctly, last time i checked the oil cold it showed i was empty on the dip stick. But once the engine was started and shut off after let run for a few minutes I got a oil level reading on the dipstick. Thanks for any input.

Always check the oil when the engine is cold with no engine running and on level ground. If you checked it when cold and nothing was showing your definitely low on oil.It might take a couple quarts to bring it up to par.

Make sure you put Diesel rated oil since this is diesel truck. LOL.
Just making sure, a lot of people don't know the difference between gasser oil and diesel oil.
The diesel oil is more stout since it has to float the soot which means the oil goes black very fast.
