I need some help or point me in the right direction on what could be the problem. I have been having a problem in that we can not get the truck timed because the inability to clear a Code 88. This has been this way for at least 6 months. Well now the IP failed (irratic throttle, run away a couple of times at full throttle) and I figured that this has been the problem all along. So I ordered a brand new pump, installed it and I now get codes 34 and 88. When cold it starts like a flooded gasser.. chug, chug, chug, lots of white smoke but eventually clears up. It runs "ok" but not great.
Few things to mention:
What would cause a code 88 without even having the engine running?
Thanks for any help.
Few things to mention:
- It has been starting hard for a few months. It has been getting progressively worse since last spring. It used to be now and then starting hard but lately it is every day.
- The SES light comes on at about 2000 rpm and stays on until you shut it off.
- After clearing the codes the Code 88 immediately comes back without the truck even running. (cleared with paper clip - simultaneously depressing the brake and accelerator pedals )
