i have a 2002 3500 van it has 240000 miles motor exploded ..i had the turbo redone better then new at 215000 got a new tranny 1000 miles before motor dumped....new ip at 175000 miles so all in all truck is in very good condition....i am thinking about putting in a new crate 6.5 with a 3 year 100000 miles warrenty ..gm says it has all the updates would i be better doing that or going wiht a 141 new engine...the van goes 200 miles 5 days a week no shut down or start ups just runs all day..so has anyone had any experience with the new updated engines....neeed imput so i can get theis van on the road in the next 10 days ..thanks ron in va

how much is a new crate these days? I have done some checking and found some manufactured 6.5's for 3500.00 with the same 36/100,000 warranty on them. I am just putting info aside for if that day ever comes I need it.

That's 52000mi\year, so you couldn't go wrong with the crate engine - if it has not been sitting in a warehouse for 5 years.

You'll want a 2005 engine, to get the good stuff.

Thats a good price.I saw them on a G.M. sight today for over seven grand.I think the stamped number ,top,front,drivers side,on the rail between the head and valley describes the year G.M. put it together.Along with cu.in.and option code.What numbers on the block tell when it was casted i have no idea.I wish i did know.

driver error ..i was not driving i have sevral trucks the person driving at the time saw the oil light appear at 4:15 pm quitting time is 4:30 so he ignored the light and bammoooo....the fitting on the oil cooler came off..

You have to watch out for GM crate engines, friend of mine does a lot of 6.5 work at a dealer and he told me they are still using up there leftover engines.

The guy I bought mine from had the engine replaced by the dealer in Dec. 2000. The part # on the invoice is 12457640, lists for $7279.40, net cost $4532.00

I bought a crate 6.5 from a local dealer for 5k found out it was the early block, did not know the difference at the time. 7k plus is what I was quoted for the late model block if you could find one. just going by what was told to me.

I'm not sure about price differances from truck to van /school bus engines. I was priced $6800 for an F long block last fall.

yeah this is suppose to be a f long block with all of the updates i will see it on monday ..i will not pay for it till i see it.....kinda dissapointed in peninsular diesel..the 18:1 engine is great but one year warentee and never did get a milage amount is kinda weak for such engines .....guess i will go with the gm crate if its the 506 diamond ones...Peninsular penPeninsular

If I was buying a 6.5 engine tomorrow for my truck I would really take a hard look at Marshall Engine for 3500.00 with a 36/100000 mile on it. I would be interested in what blocks they use and IF they could be orderer with 18.1 pistons also.

i went to the chev dealer today ..saw the block ..its got 506 in big numbers on the head sides...and it also has the double triangle..so iis that the good hummer block or is that a piece of crap ..like to know before i pay it was sitting outside so. i got a sneek peak

Yep, that's the good Hummer block. Cast by International/Navistar. For 5,800 I would go with that - good price, good engine. Have 'em put the new aftermarket oil cooler lines made by Lubrication Specialists so you won't have another failure like that again.

GM still uses the same crappy aluminum crimp fittings on the oil cooler lines, and its just a matter of time before they fail again.
