Geno,

I was checking out the price list, and the $166 one is for diesels under 75hp. The one for diesels 250-500 hp is $555.

Nope, have never heard of them or anything about them, good or bad.

maybe i should of stated for fuel, you are correct for oil but for fuel they are $166.00 old age gettin me

Geno
Geno,

OK, now my oops-sorry. I assumed you were looking at the oil filters. Previous answer stands though...I know nothing about them.

John
They are very popular in trucking and yachting. It uses a bounty paper towel as the filter. Does a great job.

Robert
There is no test to prove it will filter smaller than one micron. The screen on my window also filters particles below one micron, however it doesn't do it efficiently and I doubt that this filter would either. Filtration would also vary with the media installed.

I would not use this for fuel. I did some research on the gulf cost filters when I was looking for an oil bypass system.

The main concern is water. I have heard that if water hits the paper towel filter, the paper can tear. (just like a hand paper towel trying to mop up a water spill.)

I have heard this from a couple of people running oil field eq. These guys said they were OK in low RMP equipment like oil field pumping/compressor units.

I was not too worried about water in an oil bypass system, but I don't think I would run this filter for fuel. I don't know how bad the problem is, just did not want to take a chance. Water in fuel is always a concern & I would not want my filter media collapsing during use. I cannot speak to the filtration levels, did not get that far into it after I heard about the water issue. . . .
Over 25 years ago a company marketed these filters for oil. They were sold by individuals like a paramid marleting scheme. If something goes wrong who do you go to? They used a roll of toilet paper for a filter element. It was an external filter housing that was installed inline with the factory filter. I knew several people that used them but I never did. I was a little skeptical I guess.

One of the problems that I see with it is that they claim extended oil change interval. Clean oil is not the basis for oil change interval. It is the breakdown of the chemicals in the oil that is the problem. The oil is nice and clean but it is not lubing properly. I would be concerned about break down of the toilet paper itself and it getting loose in the engine and clogging oil ports and jets. Big problems then.

My $.02 worth.
