my ieal diesel truck would be to take a 1948gmc one ton body and mount it on a mid 80's one ton dually 4x4 frame, drop in a well built 6.2 with a hummer centre mount turbo kit with the 6.5 heads, hummer headers, 3 inch duals into 6 inch stacks, paint the whole truck detroit alpine green, way illegal window tint, pumpin stereo, and 2004 3500 aluminum wheels, thats a crazy nice custom truck...:coolnana:

1971 Blazer 4-6 inches of lift 13+ inches of travel commerical rims and tires (37" tall and 22.5 rims)

Miller's cycle 6.2 with an obligatory VGT holset turbo, FMIC, NV4500/ Northwest Fab BlackBox/lowmax 205 combo, 3" exhaust through a straight through muffler.

If the combo could be done it would be close to the perfect vintage on/off road dual-purpose truck. IMO

Here is a quick shot of my creation, its a 1967 Kaiser Jeep M715, dana 60 HD front & dana 70 rear they're geared with 5:87 ratio's. I retained the stock Jeep T-18 4-speed & NP 200 t-case, shes got a 6.2 out of an 86 CUCV. I fabed up 3" straight pipe duals and manifold adaptors.

My truck would start with my 1986 M1031 contact truck. I have the banks turbo UPS delivered Friday installed and the service body removedand replaced with a custom flatbed with gooseneck hitch and headache rack. Then install 35" tires on 16x8 flat black rims. Then find me a nv4500 for the tranny and we are there.

My 1988 Grand Wagoneer ExPolice Rig
6.5 or 6.2 Turboed w/ propane boost
4" lift
3.31 gears, nv4500, maybe extra OD unit??

That would be amazing.
It's good to vent my dreams

So I'm really curious about a 6.2l in an s10. Anyone at all with experience on this? I'd really like to drop it into a slightly lowered, late '80's s10 blazer and shoot for crazy fuel mileage. But can it even fit in a lowered s10 blazer? I don't care if I need to put a big cowl hood on it just to make space, but I'm thinking hight isn't the issue here.

I guess I'm building my dream truck. A friend of mine's dad had the '67 1 ton flatbed I started with, and from the first time I saw back it in '92 or '93, I wanted it. I tried to buy it, but he wouldn't sell. I remember thinking how cool it would look with a dually bed on it (not knowing they never made dually pickups in those years). After about 10 years I finally talked him out of it, and by then, I knew I would have to fabricate dually fenders for it. In 2000 I got my first 6.2 truck, followed by several more, and became a fan of them. By the time bought this truck, I had the plan for making an old school diesel dually bouncing around in my head.

Here's the truck the day I pulled her home:
Image

I got the truck, found a nice LWB box and a stepside bed for the fenders. I found out quickly that A) the wheelbase on the C-30 was 6" too long to use an 8' box, and B) that the original rearend was too narrow to use for a dually pickup. I cut the frame and bought a 14 bolt rearend from a '97 C3500.

The two trucks I cannibalized to make it a pickup:

After I got the box mounted, I went to on the dually fenders. I cut down stepside fenders to match the contour of the fleetside box.

After I got the fabbing done on the body, I bought a low mileage military takeout engine and started collecting 6.5TD stuff to turbocharge it. I added a main girdle, marine 6.5TD injectors, and WAP glow plugs from SS diesel (which I guess I'll be replacing with 60G's before I put it back together) I also bought a NP435 close ratio transmission because the SM420 that was in the truck is basically a 3 speed trans with a granny low. The close ratio NP435 has a useable 1st gear and does not have huge drops in gear ratio between gears like the SM420 and SM465's do. It will be much more suitable for the diesel. In fact, GM used these transmissions exclusively behind the big block V6's in the 60's GMC trucks for the same reason. Those engines made big torque, but didn't really like to rev. I decided to paint it alpine green for an old school look, and fab an old school looking pressure chamber for it using a '70 Porsche air cleaner. I also made up some decals for using the old Detroit engine designations. I got the engine put in the truck, and the project came to a screeching halt for a while.

Just recently, I've got back on it. I installed the custom 4" discharge housing for the turbo and got her running. That's pretty much where I stand as of now! I'm currently adding power steering and hydroboost brakes before I put the front end back on.

The truck I am building is:
1970 Land Rover Series IIa 88 stretched to 100" wheel base.
6.2 with a banks kit, NV4500, Atlas 4spd, D60 front and rear, 36" TSLs

i dont know if this is creative enough but how about a 6.2 in a 46 caddy hearse with gm-1 turbo..ford 9" with i hope to find some 3.00 or so gears, thm 425 from a motorhome..76 ford truck spindles for disc brakes on original suspension..02 explorer rack+pinon steering. tilt front end. under floor foot brake pedal hooked to the hydra-boost from the p-30 chassis motorhome with a huge master cyl. the air-conditioner, heater set up from my 82 pick-up..of course all the gauges installed in original dash...and a pair of fuzzy dice hanging from the rear view mirror..ha ha ha ha ha

Well my goal is very simple vs some of the other guys on here.

J code manifold
Meth/water injection (in garage)
6.5 IP and injectors
Build up my toasted 700R
M1008 diffs with (4.56 gears) posi 14 bolt rear of course.
315 75 16.5 tires (just under 35s)

I'm thinking of cramming my 6.2 into my RS camaro... I know, crazy... but with a set of 5.60 gears, and some cartoon crazy bigNlittles in there, it'll fly. I have a ZF 6 manual to cram in there... from my dad's corvette, soooooo,. all I gotta do is get a bellhousing because the ZF is from the ZR1... chebby put the trans behind an l98 so I'm sure I can source it.
I COULD put it into the 69 Firebird I have and meld on a lowered front clip from an 87 pickup I have... could be interesting...
perhaps graft it into the 72 International Travelall I have... really low vehicle...
hmmmm

my dream truck would be a 1994 k3500 duel wheel rear with a 5 speed and a 453 detroit diesel. 5 inch open duel exhaust to be run out behind the rear wheels! NO LIFT! slightly larger tires and a locked 14 bolt rear a solid front axle

I prefer the old body style, but I'm with you on the 453 straight pipes and no lift.

If money were not in the equation at all I would build me a mid to late 50's chevy 3100 apache truck. I have always been partial to that body style. Nothing crazy on the running gear. Take an old 6.2 and strengthen the weak parts with a stud girdle and ARP fastners and good timing set. High volume oil pump and a steel crank. Put a turbo on it and what ever else it would need for about 200hp and 450 ish ft/lbs. The trans I would go with an old SM465 bullet proof trans with a gear vendors OD unit to make the final drive either 3.73 for mountain driving or 3.08 for the flat lands. Get some old stock 10 bolt axles with 8 lug shafts and use a NP208 transfer case. Lifted high enough to clear some 33x12.50's. As far as the rest of the truck goes I'd want 4 wheel disk brakes and vintage air. And get somebody to make me a sliding back glass for that sucker. Run dual 2.5 inch exhaust out to dump behind the rear axle. Good set of 285/75/16 E rated michelins on some 2500 HD wheels. Paint it baby blue with all the chrome, kill switch and lojack and drive that sucker till theres nothing left. Now, I wonder where I can get an old 3100 truck.....

ok mine: starting with a 82 k20 6.2,

3 or 5 in straight piped stacks

no cruise. but power windows and locks
cant forget the cobra night watch cb and 4ft whips on mirrors
