I just got my pyro and boost gauges today in the mail, so I take a look at the boost gauge instructions and bam! complete confusion. How do you do this. Seems like I am missing parts. How do you install the boost gauge (0-35 psi no vaccum)? I got a role of this small 1/8 " tubing, a T fitting, a fitting thing that the tubing fits into that apparently screws into the back of the gauge, and thats about it for parts. Please help, I am lost.

I looked at they pyro today, and it looks a lot easier to understand than the boost. I can easily see how the parts go together. The only question I have is where do you drill and tap to put the sensor? Pics are very helpful. I do not want to put it in the downpipe though, so rule out that option.

Thanks, Jacob

Does anyone have a picture of exactly where you tap as well as a list of materials needed that are not included with the gauges themselves.

Thanks, Jacob

When I bought my gauge it did not come with the install kit....I went to Princess Auto and picked up an oil pressure gauge kit for something like $5. That kit had all of the pieces necessary to hook up my gauge....you will need to take off the upper intake and drill and tap the correct size hole for the fittings that you have....

This is where I put mine...

I was going to look for that one to link to here.

Wen I got mien I didn't get it. I thought all the parts came with the guage and all I coudl think was how on earth am I supposed to install this? YOu need to buy a union separately.

Go to NAPA, Schucks, any of those kind of stores. I got the fitting I needed at Schucks, but I had to dig through the bins myself for a while to find it. You will need a 1/8 union, ferrulle and compression. They will come together. Tap and thread the intake and screw the union in there. Pick up a new intake gasket while your at the store. Mine came apart when I removed it. Make sure you clean the hell out of the manifold before you install it. I praked a whiel mes sof brake cleaner and shoved rags though it afterwards to get all the metal bits out. I used a bit of loc-tite on the adapter as well. Then it goes the same way as the back of the gauge. Compressor onto the hose, ferrule onto the hose, and screw the compression onto the union.

Jacob,

If I remember correctly, you purchased Autometer Ultra-Lite gauges. So did I. I just opened up the boost gauge.

I already have a boost gauge on my truck and it came with different fittings. What you've got in the Ultra-lite packaging is the brass fitting to go on the back of the gauge. What you are missing for the typical installation is the brass fitting that goes onto the intake.

You basically need to go to an auto parts store and get what was supplied for the back of the gauge, but intead of a female fitting, you need a male 1/4" NPT.

Do you understand how that fitting you got goes together with the brass "olive" (compression ferrule)? If not I will lay it out and take a pic for you.

You need to duplicate that but instead of a female end (where it threads onto the gauge) you need 1/4" NPT.

Hopefully this makes sense. If not PM me or post a reply.

I unscrewed the boost sensor off my intake manifold and replaced it with a 3/8 in. short nipple and a 3/8 in. "T" and screwed a 3/8 x 1/4 in bushing into one side and the 1/4 in male x compression into that and put the boost sensor in the other end of the "T". it took all of 15 minutes and i bought the parts at a local hardware store for $5.00. i didnt have to remove the manifold or drill any holes and it worked great.

Where are you located 96, I will be more than happy to help you with the install. I have some extra parts laying around, including the upper plenum gasket for the removal to drill and tap(have those as well:D ).
Let me know.

I don't think you want to come to Maine my friend.

Is there a correct place you are supposed to tap it? In the Plenum itself or in the plenum tube that goes to the turbo?

Thanks, Jacob

no difference....should be equal pressure in the entire intake manifold if everything is working normally...

Glad to help! I just took Kennedy's instructions and did it on the opposite side when I saw how easy it would be and that there was the same "boss" on the other side.

I make it a practice to keep my old digital camera close at hand when I work on the truck so we can have some pictures for FAQ's or to assist when people ask for help. I just wrap the camera in saran wrap and cut out the hole for the lens.

Great, thanks for the tread and great info. I think I am all set now. I just don't know when I am going to get around to doing this, It has been below zero here the past few days so, not exaclty ideal working outside weather.

Thanks, Jacob

Like stated below/prior to this post, it's just personal preference where in the upper plenum to put it. I liked the look and simplicity of putting it in the tube on the top side(being in the more closed:cool: environment).
And don't tempt me about coming up there. That's close to my old neck of the woods and it's been awhile since I've had a good few lobsters in my belly.
I used to come and visit my family in CT and would bring home(here) about 10 freshies out of the traps on the last day before coming back to ensure they were still alive when we returned. I would sit and eat about 5 of them by myself. And there's nothing better than picking them yourself right off the boat:ro)
