So I’ve got a ‘95 suburban 2500 with the 6.5 and it overheated the other day. Troubleshooting it revealed a cracked coolant reservoir and indications of a blown head gasket.
Question: for those who have gone down this road before, were you able to just replace head gaskets (and studs) or did you uncover a mess of related issues?

Back in the late 90s I replaced head gaskets on two 6.2 engines with new bolts/gaskets and cleaned up the mating surfaces and no issues afterward. Both worked fine after that.

What was the cause for your overheating?Oh I just read you had a cracked reservoir. You might get away with just new gaskets and bolts but look the heads and block over carefully and use a feeler gauge and machined straight edge to check for warpage.
