I love being able to plug my truck in at home and having it warm in the morning but I can't plug it in at work and I am there for 13 hours. My question; can I run my block heater off of a battery and an inverter or is there a system out there that would work.

It would draw too much power. Check out www.espar.com for diesel fired coolant heaters. Mine works well, although because I have an unusually long run of pipe and VERY cold freeze protection I had to use 2 coolant pumps.

I like it, what should I expect to pay for a single pump set up?

How much does it cost to plug your truck in every winter?

Something tells me it wouldn't be too practical in the long run. I know what you mean with the sticker shock. That's why I've decided to wait until next winter to put one in mine.

You will spend about 1000 on a decent generator to run the heater element. Take a look at fuel consumption on a generator plus the idea of getting it stolen, exhaust etc. I have a honda eu3000 that will run it but gets spendy to operate, change oil, air filters etd. I don't have an espar yet but am looking at putting one in as soon as my dealer here agrees that it is even possible. They say it can't be put in a duramax.

Oh, ya Max Power - no need to comment - I know you have one and we have had this discussion before that it will indeed go in a duramax. Maybe when you are in town we can stop by and show them :) I need to find someplace else to buy one than locally since they won't even sell it to me.

www.lubricationspecialist.com Greg is a vendor on DP. I put mine in at -15C in my parents driveway. Anyone can do it with some time and common sense.
