Which one would you rather run for smoother & better power / shifting. Also why with a new fuel filter i still need a lift pump because i get the low fuel rail psi code when edge is set to 100hp. But i can run the predator on 120hp and it does not starve for fuel.Is this something to do with timeing (one more than the other).

The Predator will give you all the power your tranny wants. Like rydnhi4x4 said you won't have to deal with "the latest Edge problem".

if you decide to go with the predator remember after prgramming your truck it takes about a 100miles of city driving to let your tranny break in to notice the new power and shift points of the tune.

Hmmm. Just came back from a Dyno event today. I rolled in at 4th after 2 Dodge's and an EFI tuned LB7 out of 22 trucks.

I have a Hot J/A, TG Jr. and an exhaust, that's it.

No "latest problems", no complaints....YMMV.

Shift on the fly, turbo timer and Attitude display are pretty compelling reasons to consider the Edge.

predator is a very nice unit, very reliable also.

I sold mine due to no monitoring device, not switch on the fly ect. But that aside Id take predator over edge due to all the BS with edge.

My Edge boxe(s) (went through 3) were all nightmares.

The Predator delivers great power and its 120 tune is more than any stock tranny can handle for longevity.

The 120 does throw codes on my truck once in a while (EGR). 85 is stable, good power and does not go too high on EGT's unless you tow. Water injection keeps that in check. No experiance with edge. I would like to here more on this too.

Having run all Edge, Hypertech and Predator, on my 04.5 LLY and I run the Predator on my 07.

Edge was the first company to come out with an aftermarket programmer or underhood module for the LLY. I had to wait about 6 months to find something and Edge was it.
Edge to me, was guttless below 2000 rpms. It made decent power above that but the torque gain was, in my opinion nonexistent below 2000 rpms.

I had the classic, rattle, blue/white smoke terrible surging and endless codes being thrown. It shut off on me I cant tell you how many times. Went through 3 boxes and plugged in the 3rd box and the truck wouldnt start. When I unhooked the box it finally started and threw around 10 codes, and had to do yet another trip to the dealer to get it fixes. They were getting suspicious. They kept asking me which programmer I was running. While its not a bad product, there certainly were bugs in the system that I didnt expect for $750. Not to mention that unless you plan on building your tranny, levels 4 and 5 are worthless to have. I'm not bashing their product. All I'm saying is that it didnt work for me.

After I sold my brand new 3rd box, I switched to Hypertech. I didnt buy my truck to drag race, sled pull or anything like that. I wanted some extra power and something to last me a while. Hypertech made a touchy throttle, touchier. It, to me, had way more low end torque right off idle than Edge ever did. Top end power was comparible. I didnt have to worry about frying my tranny and more imporntantly to me, I could adjust the speedo for my 285's. Hypertech has served me well on just about every vehicle I've ever owned. I pulled about 9000 lbs across the country, several times, without excessive EGT's or any other problems. For $280-300, its the best bang for your buck....Period...60,000 tuned miles later, I traded in for an 07, but we're not there yet.

The Predator struck my interest after reading here about all the satisfied members who run it. I sold my Hypertech and bought a used Predator. I tuned my 04.5 LLY with it and it was a nice surprize. You can read about it here:
http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=103075&highlight=hypertech+vs+predator,+here+are+my+thoughts

After I traded in, I waited 2000 miles before I tuned anything. I was either going with Superchips this time or Predator. I've heard great things about Superchips and how it tends to give you great mileage. But for $450, I was turned away. For $300-330, vendors here on this forum sell predators that provide you with real time data of just what your engine is doing. Set your cruise control on the highway, plug in the programmer, and check out all the data that you can read. Its some pretty cool stuff. That in itself was worth it to me. The Predator with my 04.5 felt strong on the 85 tune. It would flat out run. Predator lays down just over 700 lb ft of torque at the wheels on the 85 tune with an 04.5 LLY truck. Thats about the limit to what we can handle on a stock tranny. The rattle kinda got annoying a little bit too. Predator adds 2 degrees timing on the 40 h.p. tune, 4 on the 65 tune, 6 on the 85 tune and 8 on the 120 tune. Your stock computer advances timing when the coolant temp is below 150 degrees during warm up. The predator adds more on top of this which gives it that 1987 6.2 rattle when the motor is cold. Once its warmed up, its normal.

I'm happy with my 85 tune now with my 07 but I think this new fuel sucks big time.

So thats pretty much it fellas. Bottom line is that for hald the price, you could get a Predator. For twice that price, you get an underhood module that adds much more power but you're limited to levels 3 and below which is comparible to Predators 65-85 tune.

Good luck. Hope that helps.

So far I love my predator. 85 hp tune just wakes the truck up and with the added power ive already noticed increased milage by the dic. normally i would see about 15mpg city and hwy. right now after flashing my truck my milage is steady at about 17-18 and if i baby it on the hwy I see about 21-22

Does anyone know where the Edge J/A gets the fuel temp reading from?
Tank, Return Lines... ??
Thanks

Talked to Edge Tech Support and it reads it from the fuel rail.
If anyone else was wondering.

You are best off to hand calculate your fuel economy, your DIC could be way off.

What kind of numbers did you put down?

I did 460 on level 6 (no tq, they didn't have an optical pickup for the tach...). The LB7 did a 507, second only to the Dodge that ran 598. I think everything was overstated a bit, it was an inertia Dyno with an operator that wasn't really used to diesels...I had done 418 last Fall on an eddy load cell with the stock exhaust and no TG Jr.

Back on topic, I think Nick's write-up on the different options is excellent and I cannot argue with his conclusion that the Predator is an optimal choice for many.

Other things going against the Edge is no ability to adjust for tire size or increase the speed limiter (that was a problem on the Dyno....)
