I know things have got out of hand on a few threads lately. Wasn't this the one part of the "place" made for these type of discussions?

Being a member for quite a while, I for one like to read up on a good discussion, and not just "what does limp mean?, what about the bully dog blah, blah, blah...."

Ton of good info in most of these threads as well as entertaining. How much more info would we recieve if left to run on.

Look at the hits the Nasty thread recieved. Think it was just to read about 1000hp?

I give the "piston thread" 2 days the way things have been 'modded lately"

Not bashing, just wondering

Take care,
Rob

I agree with Rob on this.

More than a couple of threads have been moved or locked than I can rightly justify.

ooppps, did i say too much;)

If this is about a particular 1000 hp thread, I completely agree with Rob. The mods are way too quick to delete and/or lock a thread. What, you guys afraid someone might get there feeling hurt? There are times when threads should be locked, but when your in the bench racing/smack talking forum who cares. I know the excuse is the thread isn't going anywhere, once again who gives a damn, this is what this forum is for.

I'm still faster than you Rob!! :p:

:D

Seriously, some folk do not know how to "discuss" tech issues, hence threads get shut down. I walk on eggshells here.

The "Bench Racing" forum was created to allow a little more room for these types of conversations. We understand that many of our "old timers" enjoy the constant bickering but it's not something everyone likes. Specifically, a number of comments were made today in the two closed threads about it being another "typical day at the Place" ... Is that to be taken in a good way??!

If this really is what the membership wants in this forum it can happen. EVERYONE needs to understand though that it will get ugly. There WILL be arguing. There is very obviously a lot of disagreement amongst many of our members. I'm sure some of you look forward to and want to read through that bitterness.

Anytime a thread gets ugly the staff is accused of NOT moderating it properly. When we do moderate we get accused of not moderating properly, fairly, too much, etc. We get accused of being biased regularly. Are we? I'd like to think not but we're humans just like the rest of you. It doesn't really matter.

The bottomline is that if you really want this to be a knock down drag out fight forum it can be... Post your opinions and we'll consider relaxing a bit in this forum if that's what the majority want.

I agree. This place has gotten very "political" lately.

A lot of the technical and mechanical guys on here really can't speak their minds anymore b/c they know if the slimmest chance it'll offend someone; POST DELETED.

Heck, I'd vote "let 'em loose!". This will stop certain folk from starting a fight to lock down a thread they don't like. They'll eventually get tired.

When a mod feels a technical thread has lost it's technicality, just move it into this forum. Put a nice pretty little warning on the cover, just like on the religious forum saying, "Readers without balls might have there feeling hurt if taken too seriously".

IMO, unless people are being threatened or any other extreme verbal abuse, a thread should never be shut down.

Remember, we are all adults here, whether we act like it or not.

I'll vote for turnin' 'em loose. I agree some of the newer members may be caught off guard with it, but I was a new member not long ago and quickly figured out that isn't the only thing on the place. I have benefited greatly from the outstanding tech, mod, and maintenance articles, but when it's slow @ the firehouse, a little trash talk can be pretty entertaining.

Put the gloves on and check the feelings @ the door...

This is not at all what happens. As a general rule we don't care WHO gets offended. We DO however try to make sure no rules are broken doing it.;)

It's a very fine line and we honestly try to do what we think is best for all concerned.

On psychobike.com which I am a member there is a forum just for that. Smack talk, calling someone out, anything goes. Gets real interesting there but also you can really learn how someone is and call out b.s. about them or their findings. I think this site could use one but make the members agree to some rules and if they break them bann them from that forum. Just an idea.

i agree, let em go. if you don't like it don't read it. maybe put a warning that "anything goes within reason" so people know they may be walking into a heated debate.

Let em put the tights on, and get after it. Ref it like a wrestling match, not a boxing match.
