Bed liner removal

I just purchased a 2008 GMC Sierra that came with a dealer installed GM parts under rail bed liner. I want to remove the bed liner and have the bed coated with Rhino Lining. I can't get the truck to the Rhino Liner dealer until next week and I am heading out on a several hundred mile trip this weekend. I want to remove the bed liner before the trip to keep the vibration from rubbing against the bed's paint. Unfortunately the bed liner is installed by screwing through the bed and tailgate. Is there any type of primer or paint I can put on the bare metal left from removing the screws that is decent? I seem to remember there being some kind of zinc coating a body shop told me about once that I used when screwing molding back onto a car I had painted. I spoke to the Rhino Lining dealer and they told me once the coating is sprayed on the holes won't be visible.

What part of the bed are you worried about (the rails maybe).Because when you get the Rhino they prep it with 50grit so the paint will be scuffed anyways.Maybe I didnt understand what you are trying to explain.

I didn't know that. I thought the bed should be as pristine as possible with no scuffs or scratches when they apply the Rhino lining. I guess it won't matter if I leave the bed liner in until I can get the truck to the Rhino lining dealer. Should I still consider priming the bare metal holes before the Rhino lining? Or won't that matter either?

Thanks for the info!

I'd just leave things as they are. When the Rhino dealer gets you in for application of their product they will pull the liner, dispose of it. They will have to scuff the paint for best bonding of the liner material to the bed. I guess I'm lazy but I can't see doing part of their work for them. The liner material will fill the screw holes and protect any bare metal from rusting.

First off, I spray in bedliners. If you leave in the the drop in they will remove it and charge for it. I do, time is money. Also, yes they will sand your bed. If you do not, the material will peel off. It is almost like the more used the bed is, the easier it is to spray. It involves less prep work. I am sure there will be a couple others to post that will confirm what I have said.

LINE-X dealers don't charge anything to remove drop-in bedliners. It's simple and takes all of about a minute or two. Just take your truck to your bedliner dealer of choice, they will take care of it. You don't need to do anything to your truck.

LINE-X with Xtra, no fading. This bedliner is over two years old and still looks brand new, except it's a little dirty:

Boy your line-x dealer is way better than my local guy. He charges for everything. I guess you have more pick up owners than here too.
