Hey guys and gals, I have a drive shaft that makes a clunking sound. I found out it was coming from the axle yoke and had it replaced. I also replaced the u joint and still had the same problems, its as if the built-in tabs are too far out allowing the axle to move creating the clunking sound. Is there a way to fix this? Can I weld some tabs on both sides closer to where the u joint sits? I'm pulling my hair out on this

Sure you have the correct U joint? There are a couple of different sizes. You may have the smaller size in there. Measure between the retaining tabs and get the joint that fits.

I looked on rock auto and im not seeing anything with a different width from cap to cap. Is there something I'm missing? The current u joint was purchased at Autozone and the computer picked out the part

There are 2 sizes 4.185" and 3.624." IIRC the aluminum and steel drive shafts take different sizes.
