Was wondering if anyone has a smoke switch on their LBZ was debating on getting one but had a few questions bout em. How much will one cost to buy and install? Will they damage your truck in any way? Was also wondering if anyone could explain to me how they work?

Thanks,
Luke

the low tone comes from the amount of fuel. It fools the truck into thinkin it is making a lot of boost when its really not. From there the truck tries to catch up by adding more fuel. Fuel with not enough boost = SMOKE!!!:D

watch useing a smoke switch when a cop is around was rideing with my buddy in his dodge that blows a lot of smoke and he got a ticket for exabihition driveing when he blew a lot of smoke through an intersection.

is it nessicary to add in the resistor and the diodes? i would like to do this to my lbz but im not too familiar with all of the electronics. Can this be done with just a regular toggle switch?
I dont know what they do either but if you dont use the diodes and the resisters. As soon as you flip the switch it throws your truck into limp mode and your cel comes on. Yes it can be done with a regular toggle switch.

ok, so i wired this up today and came up with a bit of a problem. For one it works, she rolls smoke like a freight train, but it trips a code when i flip the switch. I dont know why but i cant seem to get any power to flow through the resistor. I have the diodes installed, and when i flip the switch without the resistor it says i have 31 pounds of boost and throws a code for my map sensor that says it has too high of a pressure. I even sodered the resistor and still couldnt get juice to flow through, i tried a 1/4 watt 22 ohm resistor and a 1/4 watt 47 ohm resistor. Whenever i would flip the switch with the resistor wired in it would still stay at the same boost level, i just cant seem gure out what the problem is. Anyone have any idea?

do you have the diodes hooked up right. If you put them in backwards it wont work right.

I removed the resistor from mine and haven't had a problem my boost gauge doesn't move but It rolls smoke like a train.

07 LBZ
do you have a electric or mech boost gauge

I dont want my truck to blow the smoke, However, I do enjoy watching someone else roll the coal going down the highway when they step on it.

Used at the right time I think it can be perfectly ok.

can this work on the LMM duramax??

#53 ·
I believe it does. I remember someone with a lmm on here that had one workin

If guys are too confused on wiring this up i'm sure someone here could help... pre-wired so you just need to make the connections on the map/maf. I was going to make one for myself... if anyone else needs one shoot me a PM

i have a question. im guessing i found the map its on the aluminum intake. i unplug and the exhaust rumbles the vanes are open. correct so far? if im right my wires are grey-green-orange. is the grey still 5v or is the green. according to the diagram the middle is the output so do i go by the pic or wait till i get my multimeter. and the diodes i found are 1n4001 are these the same? sorry for the long post

I know I'm a little late on this post, but I just got my smoke switch hooked up tonight on my LBZ...WOW! works great! ready for my first tailgater :gray:

i had mine on for about 8mo then took it off to re work it. since i have built it all into a circuit board, intstalled the circuit board into a small potting box, then filled the potting box with silicone so its sealed like a solidstate circuit. plus looks a lot more professional, thing i might splice in some single wire GM weatherpack connectors into the stock harness for a good hookup. PPL can say what they want about the mod but i like it and its everones sport not just theirs so once they start making my truck payment then they can give their opinions on what i should or should not do with my truck. sorry for the rant i just get tired of ppl dogging on other ppls stuff. we all here for the same reason. we love diesels. not to prove "your right and im wrong" or "i know better than you"

lol i couldnt agree more. I love the mod. I really think the ones that are pissed are the ones that cant figure it out. and how did you work it into a circut board. I like the way that sounds.

well said....soooo with that said anyone want to donate towards my payment???

bought a "cookie cutter" test circuit board from radio shack and soldered in the diodes and resistors to some wire, trimmed the excess off the board, then drilled some holes in a small potting box to route the wires thru then after everything was all said and done i filled it will silicone to make it a weatherproof circuit and to keep the board secure, then i buttoned it all up. ill see if i can post some pics

here are some pics when i was building it

ya if i had only realised i soldered in a 1/8watt resistor instead of the required 1/4watt looks like ill have to add one inline now that ive already filled the box with silicone:duh: oh well i just put my PPE Boost Controller so im going to do some testing with that then might add the smoke switch back on later

looks good im diggin the single stack, wish i would have got one but i dont wanna cut my 5in stainless or block my back window company logo.

thanks man, thinking about color matching the stack to the same color of the truck. found a guy that could set me up with the paint. and don't blame ya for your reasoning

early in this thread it was said that this smoke switch will work on any gen...can anyone else verify this to be true? got a guy asking me if it would work on an LB7....any ideas? i don't see why it wouldn't work
