Just got my Allison trani filter and besides the new filter and cleaning the magnet, and replaceing it, will I need any Dextron VI trani oil ? Any tips would be appreciated to this diesel novice.

Good idea to fill filter with fluid, Dextron VI, before install. Less than a quart is needed.

Outside of buying Dextron VI from the stealer anyplace else that sells it or equivalent?

Old Soldier, First I admire your flag "Old Glory" waving away. Mine waves 365 days a year. Second, thanks for the message...I thought only the stealers carried dextron VI cause I did call around but thought I'd check. Good Luck to ya.

A little advice from experience, make sure the transmission is cold before removing the filter. If not you will definately need more than half a quart.

I always change the filter when it is cold. I have the new filter filled with fluid, a clean magnet, get under the truck, change it less than 4 minutes...
