With all this engine performance talk, what's the deal with Allison upgrades? Who are the front runners and what kind of cash/effort might we expect?

I also heard that changing clutch packs isn't neccessarily just a parts swap. Something like doing a differential where you have to measure and select parts for proper clearances?

I guess it depends on if you are going to turn the wrenches yourself. I watched my install at Suncoast and I would tackle the swap job but not the build. I would not even tackle the swap job on a 4X4 because it looked like a royal pain in the ass.

I think you pay a bit more for a vendor to do it but it is worth it in the long run. My Suncoast has been bullet proof so far with 5,000 HARD miles so far.

Dave,

I got the balls-out Stage 4 kitchen sink setup.
I think that the reason certain parts are not available yet for resale is they need the components to keep up with demand for the Stage 4's.

The phone never stopped ringing while I was there, and they had trucks coming in the whole time. You get everything you will need in the Stage 4 and you won't have to worry about piecing it together. It costs some extra cash but I did not want to go in twice and I know where to take it if it breaks.

KISS rule definitely applies, make it stronger and it will work. Run away from the electronic BS, the tranny is smart enough already.

I've been inquiring on tranny upgrades myself. I asked Joe at Suncoast about the Stage III. He said this, "No final data on stage III, but it appears that there will be substantial differences over stage II in parts and prices."

Anyone have something different than the Suncoast pacakges? TST or the ATS Packages? Comparisons???

The 4x4 swap is easy ... Just a transfer case and driveshaft ,some electrical connections and vent .... We had it ,the Allison, on the ground in 57 mins and T-case ... Install is as simple hour and a half two hours rolling out the door ... I know of someone in the process of stage II .... Not ready yet perhaps by our dyno day ...

Mine well it's a "beta" .... I reserve all comment to what level ...

Suncoast => Allisons viagra ,ride it HARD day or night ...Happily chirping second gear in a Fat Ass Dually,at will ...
