I'm new to the duramax diesel and allison combo in my 03 LB-7 diesel. I just recently changed the tranny fluid and was curious to know how much fluid to put in when u just drain the pan, and not the entire system.

Dex III, or equivilent, and don't forget to change the spin on filter while you are at it.

Welcome, draining the pan should take anywhere from 8-10 qts. depending on how hi-lo your trans was filled. The book says 8.75 qts.

:exactly: And if you want to take the extra time, you can measure how much you drain out.
