I just changed my first allison transmission spin on, and I bent my handle on my filter wrench and it took every bit of energy to finaelly spin it off. Is this usual? Are they always that tough to take off? Also I forgot the magnet going back out now to put it back on. lol

Went back out to put the magnet on and it was the same as the first. All I did when I installed the second one was hand tight and a half turn with wrench. I bent this one getting it off. Thank god I bought two.

Hand tight only for me. Never had a filter fall off or leak and they were plenty tight when I went to remove them. The factory Allsion spin-on that I took was damn tight as well. No need to have it that tight.

My truck, the oil and trans filters always come off hard, and I alwyas hand tighten them (tight as I can). Forgot the magnet once, and the trans filter came back off by hand, but not at the next oil change.
I guess I'd rather them get tighter than looser anyway!

hand tight + a quater turn for me. Ally spin on always comes off easy and fuel filter usually does too. Oil filter get mysteriously tight though. Ive bent wrenches, collapsed filters, had to use the screwdriver, etc. just to get it off. Always lube o rings with oil, atf, or fuel when replacing filters.

I read a few posts here that stated that the Allison was under a lot of pressure. I put mine on a little tighter than hand tight because I was concerned with the higher pressures. The oil filters from the factory come off hard from the Gorilla who tightened it. I believe the oil pressure is around 35 to 90 f/lbs by the observing my gauge, and the tranny is around 125 f/lbs. If I am wrong, please chime in!

The "old" rule of thumb was to turn filters one-half turn after the gasket touches the seat. Usually hand tight meets this requirement. This went for all spin-on filters--fuel, oil, whatever.

I don't think (opinion) that pressure makes a difference. Unless you are working in the 3000-4000 psi range, I think that the gasket as installed will handle whatever pressure the transmission has at the filter.

I could be wrong--I have been before.

If you keep having problems getting the filter off you can buy a cup"large socket" for the end of the filter so a ratchet can be used and the cup wont slip on the filter, preventing a tear or warping the end of the filter. Cost only $8-15 through snap-on depending on size needed.
