Currently looking to buy my first diesel truck. I am looking at GMC Duramaxes and the ones in my price range are 200,000 miles or higher. Curious if I should save more money to buy a truck with lower miles, or, if you were to recommend that I do buy a truck with 200k+, what are some things that I should look for?

Also, the truck will be a work truck. Concerned about functionality versus aesthetics.

Thanks in advance!

Some series of Duramax trucks seem to have fewer and cheaper to repair problems. And of course, maintenance is king. Where you live and the smog laws come into play also. I would buy a truck that someone hadn't updated with lots of extras, speed parts, etc.

I bought my truck when it had been in service for 6 months and had 51,000 miles, high mileage by any measure. Today, 11 years later, the truck has 148K and only one major repair, and that was less than $1000.

I have had less problems with high mileage vehicles vs those which have sat and don't get driven much.
