The "switch" is programming in the computer. My neighbor was trying to get it done, and GM TAC said they had no plans to offer it.

A few say that they have had it done (BlizzardPlowMan is one IIRC) but never provided any details or confirmation they got actually had it programmed.

I'd be interested if someone can post the details of how they managed to figure it out.

 

turn the key to the "run" position, press and hold the brake pedal, press the "gas" pedal 3 times, let off brake and start truck. "high idle" mode activated, the truck will idle up when coolant is below 150*F and outside temp is below 32*F. This isn't a PTO type idle up, don't know if this is what you're looking for or not.

 

That process activates the elevated idle for cold temps. I think he was referring to the fast idle option.

 

I thought it was standard on 2008 and newer through the crusie control. The 2007.5 did not have this feature.

Yes I want the fast idle option. I do have the cruise control buttons, I thought it would be a matter of just adding something. The option from GM was $250.00, every truck up here in Canada had this option but this one.

 

I am thinking its programming thats needed if i recall, when programming you have to select pto option to enable the fast idle, then use the cruise buttons to set it..i will try to some diggin..

 

I just thought it was standard. If not then programming is all that should be needed. No other hardware involved from what I can tell. Yes they gig a person on that programming stuff. $250 does seem high though.

I dont have a PTO but my truck came with it. You can set the idle to whatever you want.
It's also completely useless to me!

 

its designed for pto use, it bumps the base idle to 1000 rpm or so if i recall.

I'd like to know who/how dealers are programming it. Not one of the 7 competent dealers in the Denver area would do it because they can't get the program from GM TAC, despite them asking for it.

If you know for sure that they can do it, then I'd very much appreciate you posting the number for the program.

I too would like to know how to use the tech 2 to activate it. My brother has a tech 2 and we played around for awhile trying to find the setting, but no such luck.

 

i can do it with efi live...so you should be able to do it with a tech2....

 

I have asked if EFI could do this and was told no, the program is stored in the BCM vs. the ECM and EFI can't control the BCM. If you have found a way to do this please tell.

hes doing it in the ecm the no the bcm to program into the bcm you need a tec 2 and the tis program from gm

 

I would love to get this going for my LBZ. Some have asked why do you need an elevated idle if you don't have a PTO or if it's not cold out? My reason is to allow for higher alternator output for winching in park, charging dead trailer battery bank etc etc.

 

its pretty simple...in your tune file go to engine operation, click on idle, click on base idle speed and change to the desired value....i run mine at 770 rpms.....

 

That's not quite what they're talking about. The high idle option allows you to adjust the idle speed on the fly with the cruise control. Wish my truck had it for the reasons Pinhead mentioned, but alas...

Yeah I just tried it on my 08 LBZ and it doesn't work like described in the book. I'm taking my truck into the dealer on the 4th of Feb and will ask them about it.

I guess I have it as much as everybody else does. I have the elevated idle on the DIC on my LBZ and in the book it talks about the fast idle but nothing happens (just like almost everybody elses truck in this thread). I guess it's not programmed in my truck.

 

I asked my dealer and for some reason GM won't release the software to the dealership to program it into the truck, even if you want to pay for it, don't know of anyone yet who has actually had the high idle added in at the dealership, if someone does please let everyone know.
