I'm buying a 96 6.5 5speed without cruise control. Anyone know how to add cruise? Can I just buy the lever and everything else is there? I cant beleave it doesnt have cruise. It has power windows, locks, power seat, and a/c. I wonder if the multi functuion switch went bad and someone replaced it with a non cruise switch? :think:

if the multi switch was replaced, the main cruse control motor should still be hanging of the firewall or at least its mounted there on the 1/2 tons right beside the windshield wiper motor. That would be the first thing to check out. If it is not there or doesn't look like one has been mounted there (should be 3 bolts) then I would be guessing your truck never came with one. You can go aftermarket and get the set up. Or search your local salvage yard for all the parts.

IIRC all 6.5L PCMs have cruise capability, as it is controlled directly from the PCM to the injection pump electronics (94 and up). I would remove your steering column trim and see if there are wires on the vehicle side of the multi-function switch connector that do not have mates coming from the switch. If so, I'd guess they're the cruise wires, and replacing the MF switch will make the cruise work.

Ok cool.. Im praying for cruise control setup... Im going to get it tomorrow (Friday). Ill post what I find when I get home.

IF it was 93 or older. 94 and up have no throttle linkage, fueling is controlled electronically.
