I added a remote starter to my new truck today. Now, I can start from 1200 feet, as well as lock, unlock doors, and roll-up windows if they are down. He wired the starter so that if the glow plug light is on, it waits for the light to go off before the starter kicks in. Next he's trying to get the "options" button on the remote to open and close my garage door instead of working as a panic button.

Many of us run the Astrostart 2205. You can purchase from MaxPower, Tony. He also will give you unequalled installation support.

I have a Crimestopper with remote start. It has FM paging to the remote to let you know if someone jacked with your truck. It has a LED display that you can check status of the truck and alarm at anytime. All the other bells and whistles as well.

It's set up so the remote start activates when the 12 volt current used to light the glow plug lamp stops, I believe.

As Tom S. said, some remote starters are wired to the "Wait to Start" light, and will not allow cranking until this light is Off.

Have not been real interested in a remote start, but what are you guys paying out to have these installed? I had one done on my folks car a few years ago but dad never liked the idea and eventually he had Cicuit City pull it out.

I paid $299 for the unit including installation.

A remote start is very practical, especially in the winter, and especially for a diesel. It allows the truck engine to warm up before I drive it. It allows me to get into a warm truck. Also, during the spring and summer, if I leave the windows open and it starts raining, I can close the windows from my office.

I plan on keeping this truck for several years. It was a good investment.
