I purchased the 60" Fire & Ice bar for across the tailgate. Got it mounted, and plugged it in! Nice! Love the look.

Now, I have decided to hard wire it in.........for a much cleaner look. However, according to the instructions, the white wire is to be connected to the Lt. Green wire............but, no worky for me.

Any ideas?

I also noticed that the lead from the lightbar to the plug the wires are all black and not color coated.......any suggestions to figure out which wire is which?

Thanks guys and keep up the good work of shareing information! Love the site!

plug it back in, skin a little of each wire on each side of the plug . use a meter and place one lead on one wire on one side of the plug and then find the corresponding wire on the other side of the plug, when you get continuity mark the wire accordingly. hope this helps

That would work, but it would be alot easier to plug it back in, get a test light and probe the wire and mark them accordingly. IF you already cut the plug you will need to get ahold of a battery and light up each wire one at a time and mark them accordingly.

I have not cut the wire yet.............

I am still concerned about the Lt. Green wire not making the white light come on when I hooked that up...............

was the ground wire hooked up? if the ground was hooked up make sure the connection is clean and tight, and make sure your backup lights are functional as well. if the lt green activates the backup lights it should work (also make sure the connector on the truck is free of corrosion )

either way will work, but if you use the meter you can identify each wire without having the circuits energized, and you wont have to keep getting out from under the truck to test each circuit individually , if your just want to check for power the test light will work fine .also if the probes on the meter are sharp enough you could pierce the insulation on the wires without skinning them.

I hard wired mine - I had to. The mounting bracket is "L" shaped, and I wanted the "L" pointed down, so I flipped the bracket over. That meant the left turn signal operated the right one and vice-versa. Wiring was easy. I tapped into the trailer harness loom behind the plug. Using a test light to see which wire was what. I didn't cut the wires, I only stripped a bit of the insulation away and soldered my connecting wire in. I then used liquid tape to seal the splice. Pics of the light are in my garage, but not the actual install.

Same here, I put mine on upside down and wired it to where when the running lights are on the brighter brake/turn LED's are energized. I don't use the turnsignals or dim LED's at all.

Updated Question on last post....any help

Thanks guys for the help. Just had a small wire color issue........boy do i feel dumb.

Now, I got all the lights working, except the right side blinker...........all wires are solid, the blinker on the truck works, the right side "running light" "red" is on, but the brake/blinker do not operate..........there is power going to the plug, but the Recon will not cooperate......

any ideas on that one..........?

if you have power at the truck side of the plug use the test light or meter and make sure your getting it on the lightbar side of the plg , there could be a bad connection inside the recon plug ,so test the wire on the light bar. if the wire is hot i'd give recon a call. if the wire is not hot the problem most likely is in the connector itself. then you might want to think about hard wireing the connections and soldering them

well, turns out, I am not getting power to the 7pt trailer plug on the truck. I plugged in my toyhauler to the truck this am, and no blinker on the right side of that either. so, it must be in the plug itself.

is there a fuse that controls the right side blinker?

So, to sumerize:

All lights work on the truck
Right side blinker does not work on the toyhauler
right side blinker does not work on the Recon
right side brake light does not work on the Recon

I am thinking it's in the plug housing unit mounted on the truck.......must be a bad connection in there somewhere............

I had the same problem in my 2000 truck - the wiring was F***ED at the 7point trailer plug (just a little corrosion). So I yanked it out and re-wired it - used lots of liquid electrical tape when I was done. Problem solved !

Other than that - how does it look ? (PICTURES !!!) I'm toying with getting one.

I am heading out tonight for the weekend. Me and the boys are going to the dunes, so, I may have tow the toyhauler with no right blinker or brake light. I have to work today, and we are leaving after that! damn the bad luck!

I will get some pics and get them up the first part of next week.........

OK, case closed.......................

Fuse! Fuse! Fuse!

There is a fuse in the drivers side panel that controls the trailer brake light and turn signals.........they are seperate from the truck.

Thanks all for all your help. You guys rock!

How is this suppose to hook up out of the box? Is it not a plug and play unit? is there any pros and cons between the 49" and the 60 "?? I would have thought it was a piggy back plug ... am I wrong??

I bought the cab lights for mine smoked and got rid of my amber. The install was def not plug and play. The two side cab lights were very simple and plug and play however when getting to the larger middle light some problems occured.

The setup of lights is almost identical except for the piece that plugs into the new unit. You would think they were the same wrong. The leads that make the large can light work on the OEM are like 1+ in long and by leads i mean metal tabs. The ones on the recon are maybe 1/2 in. This causes problem because now the plugs dont make contact with the tabs.

After playing with it for a while I finally had to rewire that part into another piece in order to get it to work.

Customer service was less then desireable. I called to tell them one of the leds didnt work. Instead of them saying oh we are sorry we'll send you a new one he was like yeah you can pick it up at most auto parts store. Its not the couple bucks for the bulb its the principle of it.

Also the kit came with no insturctions which also was a hassle when I figure out it wasn't plug and play.
