Why would my a/c compressor kick on and off without the a/c being on (no snowflake in display)? It kicks on for about 10 sec and off for about 25 sec. It even does it when I have the temp knob turned up for some heat.

They use a/c for dehumidifying the incoming air for defrost modes and sometimes have seen it on floor modes as well, even if the amb temp is really low.. Helps pull moisture out of the air quickly.

I did have it blowing on the floor, so that must be the answer I was looking for.

Thanks

The 3 conditions I've seen the a/c on are:
(1) a/c button pushed, get snowflake on display.
(2) defrost, no snowflake.
(3) recirc, no snowflake.
