In summary, after nearly 20 years of owning this truck, I became an honorary member of the 2-piece crank club last summer. In a nutshell I think it didn't help that I ran the turbo at 15 psi for about as long as I have had it. The end result was 3 cracked webs and a snapped crank which also took out my timing case. Thankfully, it was a beautiful sunny day and I was able to walk about a mile to get home.

So now the teardown begins to see what actually happened. We'll get it rolled over to see what we can learn.

After a lot of searching, I ran across an engine from Predator, Inc. that was coming out of a HMMWV for a Duramax swap for some rapper. I had it shipped and it came to me eventually. 2011 block with few miles.

This was early on and before the engine was out, but also shows the reason I didn't just walk away from a nearly 30 year old truck. It spent its early years in Arkansas, I bought it in Tennessee and it's seen one Ohio winter. We towed it back to mom & dad's and made room in dad's tool shed for it. Thankfully, the two post hoist wasn't in use, so there it sits.

I located a local builder for the job, so I packaged up the engine and parts for the trip. It's overkill for the 20-25 mile trip, but I built this crate. It's 20x the packaging used for the engine to ship from California to Ohio, but it worked out in the end, anyhow. More on that later.

Yes. We put heat in the floor. It has a couple in-floor lifts and most of the crane came from Marion Power Shovel. The head portion was stolen when sitting at a local weld shop, so we had to design and weld up a new one. The cold storage is on the other side.

I gathered up some parts the local builder wouldn't have good access to. He typically buys from places where he has an account, so I picked up the part from some of the 6.5 vendors. Halo girdle and proprietary valve springs from Twisted Steel Performance. Harland Sharp 1.5 roller rockers from Quadstar and gear timing set from Leroy Diesel. At the time I bought the rockers, I didn't plan to have the pistons machined. Due to the potential clearance issues, I opted for these rather than 1.6.

Engine bay got pressure washed, degreased, wire brushed, rust reformed, then painted. Due to not running this in salt, it's in pretty good shape. New motor mounts will be put in before the engine goes back in, as well. The originals are likely beyond their useful life.

I ordered P400 heads from LeroyDiesel as well. When they were ready, dad, my son and I headed down to pick them up from the factory.

The same day we picked up the heads, we delivered the engine to the local builder since at the time, the heads were the only thing he was waiting for. I waited several weeks for a ballpark estimate and it turned out there was a miscommunication. Consequently, I picked up the crated engine, which was now several boxes of parts and re-crated, reinforced and then shipped out to South Carolina, where Twisted Steel Performance will be doing the work.

Chicken or egg??? Did the cracked crank cause the webbing to crack or did the webbing flex and cause the crank. Either way we blame the harmonic dampner

Any negative harmonics affect the thin cast block of the 6.5L (y)

So..... I have a diamond block etc from hmmvw 4911xxx ip. If I wanted 1.6 and valves and springs (I already have 18.5:1 Pistons) and all those other goodies and the girdle to keep it straight. What could my potential power be? Did anyone ever figure out the big bore 4911?

I believe @Twisted Steel Performance can answer that better than me
