Hey, I'm new to the site and really like it. I have a 2005 LLY duramax and I was wondering what the purpose of the black box or "silencer" (as I have also heard it called) with 6.6L duramax written on it for. Will it make the turbo louder or not. I have seen a air intake company, Airaid I think, that includes a cap to replace the "silencer". Does it help? Any help would be great.

Would make since if it was a way to reduce turbo bark, but I think that thing is pointless. That's just my honest opinion, I'm sure others will chime in. Welcome to the site, and make sure and fill out your signature under 'usercp' so we can see what you've got.

it's a Helmholtz resonator. Do a search on it. You'll find the post that describes what it does. Long and short of it is that you want it in place. It is better with than without.
