I have a 1998 chevy 6.5 diesel truck. Never had a problem. Was going out of town one day. Loss of power going up hills. I turned around and came into town. Now when i go places, the truck starts up just fine everytime. IT's when I give it gas that it hiccups and stutters. It does this a lot more when the truck bearly starts. Once it's warm I have to give it gas slowly to reach desirable speeds on the highway. can anyone help?

the oil pressure switch's function is to?
oil pressure switch will give power to the lift pump, assume you get into a nasty accident where the engine shuts down all on it's own. without that switch fuel will continue to flow cause your key is still on. when the engine shuts down it loses oil pressure in effect shutting off power to the lift pump. did you try opening the t valve to see if the lift pump is operating, when was the last time the fuel filter got changed.

fuel filter was changed 1000th mile and then again at the 1000th mile because i was having this problem. t-valve shoots diesel out. could too much oil be a problem?

Hiccuping is a fairly common problem and most times is the PMD/FSD. As they are susceptable to heat damage and the OEM is in a hot location the common solution is to relocate it out of the engine compartment. Are you throwing any codes? You should fill out your signature so we have more info to help you with. I have the hiccuping and find that if it's really cold (10F, -15C) it's less of an issue. I also have a new OPS and that didn't change it.

Lift Pump is under PCM control in the OBD2 systems - go thru the Diagnostic Checklist for better idea of what's really happening, Ivan.

PMD is not the OEM one it was changed. when this problem first started out, on reverse it would accelerate and decelerate. I'll fill out my sig and do the checklist.

Good - the symptoms - mis-fire with no DTC - could be power\grounds\connections

Could also be the FSD, and\or harness - which remote-mount setup are you using, by brand\vendor?

I've never had this problem cuz I don't have cruise but I've read alot of posts on here about the hiccuping and cruise shutting off. It was usually a new PMD that cured it.

large aluminum plate, no fins or anything. I thought the PMD problem was due to heat issues...i have this problem in below freezing weather too.

Not to hijack or anything, but does the cruise work differently on these diesels or does it work on vacuum like the gassers do?

it's to dark to check now...but it might be loose that is a possiblity

let me shed new light on my problems. I went out into town to "test" the problem. You could say i put the pedal to the metal....sputtered a little for 4 seconds or so...then it picked up and accelerated. After that everytime i gave it gas, it never hicupped sputtered or anything. When i turn it on tomorrow, most likely it will be back to the same thing. Hicupping and sputtering. Help!

Bad diesel from your last fill? Maybe replace your fuel filter again.
