Hi, I'm new to the forum. I am in the middle of changing the glow plugs. The engine is hard starting in cold weather and it is suppose to be -10 Monday morning here in Minnesota. Changing the left (drivers) side is "easy". Question: How do you change the glow plugs on the right side (turbo side) of the engine?

if you look in the faqs you can find it all in there, i have'nt done mine yet but i believe you have to take the inner fender wall off for the passenger side and maybe the turbo. if you fill out your signature it helps for every one to know what you have. good luck and welcome to the site

See how far you can get before you disassemble everything. I got the entire passenger side changed from the wheel well without removing the intake or inner fender. It took a variety of extension sizes and the hot ticket was to drill a 5/8" hole just to the left of the wheel well to get to the one second to the left. I eyeballed it based on where the others lined up and it did the trick. Good luck!

20 minutes to remove the inner fender (including removing the battery and airbox) makes the GP change a 10 min job with no fancy extensions etc. It's also good practice for when the time comes to remove turbo to change injectors or access the downpipe clamp if installing a new exhaust. Plus...if any of those plugs aren't going to slide right out, that extra room is sure nice.

Just my personal opinion. I know lots of guys change GPs and injectors without taking hardly anything off. All the power to them.

I changed mine with only removing the airbox. I didn't realize at the time how easy it is to remove the inner fender otherwise it woulda been comin' out.
Take Dave12's advise and peel that inner fender out. If nothin' else your knuckles will love you for it!

I must agree, once you've taken it out an see how easy it is you'll be just taking it out again just for something to do.

Yep,

Just wondering what to do next.

Play around with timing, adjust angle of IC, install relay for trailer brakes.

Job completed and a good outcome

Thanks everyone. I removed the inner fender and changed the right side glow plugs. Wow, the truck starts immediately and no more blue smoke.

Actually it's not bad at all if you're just doing glows. Injectors are a little more work but still very do-able once you remove that inner fender and turbo (if doing injectors)

Most likely 10mm. Slight chance of a 3/8 but not much.

Soak all the glow plugs, and associated hardware wit PB Blaster, Kroil, etc days before. Then leave the block heater plugged in.
You should remove the passenger side front wheel, inner fender liner with the battery, air box etc. that 15 minutes saves at least three time the extra work trying to do the job without removing those parts.
