I am working on my first diesel and it's a 6.2 detroit In a 83 k20 and I'm planning on putting a 6.5 turbo on it. I am picking up a turbo, exhaust manifolds. Intake manifold, cross over, down pipe, and injector lines. It's a full part out of 2 late 90's c3500's and I believe I can get anything else from them I need. So my questions are. What else will I need to do this from the 6.5 and what will I need to find elsewhere, I work at a machine shop and can make alot of bracketry and I'm used to making things work one way or another. And I'm also wondering how everyone else has done this. I do plan to do head gaskets and stud the heads later down the line and I will take pictures as I go on this project. I know alot of other people have done this and is available on forums I'm just having trouble finding pictures and want to make a full guide on doing it.

Welcome

If it were me I would add the 6.5L turbo on the 6.2L and run the 6.2L till the time comes for the 6.5L then you could swap in the 6.5L at a later time (y)

you will have to remove the a/c box because it will hit, i would do head gaskets and studs first off. the 6.2 will not last long without it and defiantly not over 8-10psi.

Oil supply and drain for the turbo and related fuel pump plate. The exhaust cross over will need modified as your front drive shaft is on the other side.

Thanks all for the Input. I have got the turbo and will be waiting to put it on till I can do headgaskets and stud it. But for now I got the truck driving for the first time in at least 3 years and have other problems with it blowing blue smoke on acceleration and not at idle, I believe its got a leaking injector too. If I can't find the problem I will start another thread.

An A/C box from a S-10 will we a direct swap. Another option is to see if you can get an NOS Banks Sidewinder exhaust manifold with turbo pedestal. They are positioned further forward so you don’t have to remove your A/C box.

I am not worried about removing the ac box cause it currently dosent work and i will find a s-10 box sometime later due to how little money I have to put I to this truck as I'm 16 and am moving from Oregon to Montana for welding school in August.

I understand that. Good luck with the welding school.
