my 97 K1500 6.5 has about 120 000 miles, oil changed usually every 3000/4000 miles, 15W40

i just returned from a long trip, (5000 miles,)

from ontario Canada to florida, and touring around the south

noticed my oil pressure between 30-35 PSI at around 2000 RPM cruising on the highway. used 5W40 sythetic once this winter for about 1000 miles but oil press was lower, so back to 15W40

on the trip i had to add a quart every 1500 miles, is my engine getting tired or is this oil press and consumption concidered the norm for a 6.5 with this mileage???

1500 miles on a qt is ok, quite normal.

my pressure is around 40 ( needle centered )
drops a few psi when hot.

May want to check withh a real gage...

ditto: sync runs about 3-5 psi less pressure on my truck.

I personally would be concerned just on the consumption alone.
I have three gm diesels, two 6.2 and one 6.5, change oil about every 3500-5000 miles depending on when I have time. None of mine use oil between changes, no matter how hard i run them. My oldest 6.2 has just over 500K on theclock, and the front seal is starting to seep again, so it has started using some, but not enough to need to add any to the level between changes.
I would look at the oil cooler lines as others have said.
