I need help. The Duramax store has a 5" exhaust system on sale. The question is, does the 5" buy me anything really over the 4", since I would think that the fluid dynamics would really be limited by the 4" downpipe rather than the rest of the system, or would the lower EGT caused by the venturi effect shifting from the 4" to the 5" pipe be better. I'm not afraid of having a loud exhaust, in fact I kind of like it. Also, anyone out there have the 5" offered by duramaxstore.com with or without the muffler replacement pipe? 440.00 advertised seems like a pretty good price to me.

baimpala,

We sell a fairly large number of 5 inch systems, with and without mufflers, unless you're at or over 500 RW HP the 4 inch systems we sell will do all you need to have to keep EGT's in check. Our 4 inch systems are available in aluminized, T-409 and T-304 stainless, we even have dual systems if you want them. If you just want 5 inch get it but remember a lot of folks have reported a loss of low end torque with it on a lightly modded truck. Call us if we can help you with any questions etc.

I've been running my 4 into 5 system for some time now. Mostly for the awe (or testosterone) factor. No loss of torque here whether dyno testing stock (less programming) or at 495+

Short answer, no, but they do look cool
. BTW I believe the down pipe is a lot smaller than 4".

That was all but the kitchen sink. Truth be told, the highest HP rated mods are NOT yielding the highest numbers as of late...

I've got it and love it. my truck still has the cat on it, it keeps it too quiet for me. no gauges or heavy tow yet. minor issues with install on dually and molded mud flaps, nothing to worry about. i ordered a custom tip, not here yet. duramaxstore.com does not sell a tip for this system

I do not think anyone is losing low end torque. This sounds like the same one that think they get 1-2 MPG better with each and every mod. I have read on here and other boards that exhaust, air intake, boxes, fuel filter, taller tires, bed covers, bug shield, and even stacked boxes will ecah add 1-2 and sometimes 3+ MPG. What I want to know is "Where are these trucks that are getting 30 MPG? (I know; the ones with the on board mileage readers
)

John K; I am hoping you do a write up on your findings! With your Dyno. can you test the tradional way and the way Banks test? Or is it just one or the other? I think it would really clear things up if we could compare different boxes both ways on the same day and the same dyno, with the same operator, and the same truck.

Thanks!

Whats the low down JK, what is putting down the power?

TST Comp (older one), and HJAT5 are neck and neck. Next closest is about 20HP back...

Had to scratch my head, and rub my eyes, but I can repeat the results on different days as well...

wow, nice. What are you at stock? 240-250? So you are seeing a ~200hp improvement?

BUILD YOUR OWN 5 INCH SYSTEM, ITS MUCH MORE ECONOMICAL. THAT IS IF YOU HAVE THE MEANS AND A WAY TO BUILD IT. BUT, IF YOUR LOOKING FOR THE HIGHLY TOUTED "SERVICE AFTER THE SALE" THEN YOU MAY WANNA BUY ONE
