Make sure you are running 195F thermostats. It will use more fuel if it's not warming up.

Its factory thermostats (well equal to), takes awhile to warm up to 195 though.

Thanks for info I am already running some stuff in fuel to do that. You all have to keep in mind also I have not put new air or fuel filter in and I did knock off 15 lbs (I actually weighed) out of filter in it. I know guys, don't lecture me, lol. I bet that will help fuel economy fair amount. Like stated before, goal is 13mpg loaded with 40's enclosed race trailer.

I don't know if you have but try some fuel injector cleaner and a fresh/ clean air filter. That really helped boost my mileage.

Dirt, believe it or not. Needless to say before I did that the check valve thing was all red, lol. Has stayed green since I knocked dirt off but haven't had load or gotten on it either. Just easy empty driving.

Try a K&N air filter, it upped the mileage on mine, but then again with a 4-10 rear end 13's about all you'll get, I had a 94 with that set up.

K&N is plan just haven't had extra money yet. I bet after exhaust air and new fuel filter it will be up significantly. I will keep everybody up-to-date on my mileage.

Thats good. My goal after filter, after exhaust and running additive is 13mpg loaded or 18-19 empty, with summer fuel.Miles I got on 1st and 2nd tank was with 215-85-16 on it. Today it is getting 235-85-16. That should lower rpm point a little. It came factory (well door sticker says) with 225-75-16 so the new tires should help decent amount. MPG amounts stated now are winter fuel.

I've got 4.10's in a crew cab. I get at least 20MPG unloaded and on the highway. On the backroads, I average about 17MPG. Loaded with a 33FT fifth wheel camper...it's 12MPG up or down hills.

Good mileage is possible with 4.10's...I have no IDEA how it's possible...but is, I'm gettin' it...and I am flat out afraid to touch it for fear of getting what you guys get!

EDIT...I forgot...a mechanic told me that the Diesel mileage can be greatly affected by a poorly performing auto transmission. Mine was rebuilt by GM 37K miles ago. Maybe that's why I'm getting the good mileage?

I do know how it feels to want to get better mpg. trust me I know.
At least you you are getting 4 more mpg than I am:)
I am starting to think 9.5 is where my truck is going to stay and I am going to have to live with it:mad: but atleast it does run well and everything checks out good on the old beast:)

Good luck with better mpg

I got 4.10s also in my '94 and get 17mpg running at 70mph. I run #2 in it year round with a bottle of power service in it every tank. But thinking that in the near future it might get 3.73 or even 3.42s in it. But I don't do alot of hard pulling with it so it will probably get 3.42s. I fighure that it'll pay for itself over a short amount of time, if the fuel prices stay the on the up hill swing, which everyone is anticipating it will with the new fuel coming out.

This statement basically just made my decision on getting the tranny work done. I am getting between 13-14 and that includes city and highway and running my normal(which most people consider hard). I'm just getting more and more vibration while driving and it (to me) is a combonation of TC and driveshaft issues so it just needs to be done.
