I was at the dealer today getting a battery installed in the wife's car. The service guy asked if I stilol had the 2wd truck??? The reason why is we have had 20 inches of snow in the last few weeks.. I really cant go anywhere until the plows get most of the snow off the roads..They told me a few weeks ago the trade in value is about 27K. I just cant see how the sticker goes from 45k when purchased to 27k in just about a year...

2wd do not hold value. It is actually worth it even if you will NEVER EVER use the 4wd to buy a truck brand new with 4wd on it cause it holds the value so much more and when you go to sell it it is actually worth more than the option even cost. If it was 4wd I would be interested man.

I was in Texas for the holiday. There are alot of 2wd there so I asked the dealer for the trade in value. 30k miles and it stickered at 44k. They wanted to give me 24k for the truck. I cant believe they drop 20k in 1 year. I had to just laugh and walk out on the deal. I just wanted a truck with 4x4 for WI..

I am going to TX in a few weeks for work. Looks as if i made it through the winter without 4x4. I am looking to do a solid axle for next year. If its too much I will just trade it in and take the hit..

I found a way to get a 4x4. I can use the stock diff and axles. Take a Ford NP205 and put it behind the tranny. Manual shift and im good. Any help with locating parts app...

you'll also need the 4wd hubs, and mounting points for the diff. Also have to get a tone ring on the output shaft of the np205 for the vss. What are you going to do about actuating the 4wd actuator on the front diff? It's a simple grounding sequence but with now wires coming from the xcase like normal, you may have to put that on a toggle. Also, what are you going to do about tuning? What parts of the allison wiring harness do you not have that are in the 4wd harness? How will the ECM and TCM know when you've selected 4wd and use the appropriate tables? This might not be a problem til you go into 4wd.

Theres more to think about to make this a stock-like setup. You could fab it up so that it physically works relatively easily, but getting the details taken care of to be factory-like, wont be a small feat. ;) Trust me, I've pondered it as much as probably anyone and decided against converting the 2wd setup to 4wd for my pull truck. Couldn't get some answers on some of what I just posed to you. Hopefully you have better luck.

I know you know this and probably don't like it but you'd be better off in every way if you sold yours and got a 4wd. I know that's tough when you are as far upside down on it as you appear to be based on your asking price and current going rates for 2wd trucks. They suck at holding value as bad as a seive sucks at holding water. :(

Good luck though

You know smoke you are correct on some of these points. i am going to hold off of this. I will never be able to sell this truck if I do the 4x4. I may have to bit the bullet and just trade it in. I will loose about 10k but I do drive my truck.
