My dad is interested in getting a 2008 Crew cab 4x4 Dually Duramax. I was just wondering what type of mileage he could expect. He has a 2003 6.0l Ford and its a POS. I have heard nothing but good things about the Duramax and I recently purchased a 2008 1500 chevy and I love it! Let me see some avg MPG and yall sell me on a chevy dually over the Ford 6.4.....

Remember it depends on your driving habits too!

Hand calculated avg. of 11.5-12.5 short run city, 16 @ 70 on the interstate and 7.5-8 towing a 39' triple axel TH that's 13' tall, 8.5' wide and 16,000# (3200# pin wt) running 65-70 on interstate. So far she's been flawless and has 8000 miles on her. I don't drive like a grandpa either.

i love mine! my 2wd with 23k miles gets 18.5mpg at 70. and its all stock

I love mine...average 11.5 ish in town and a best of 13.5 hyw at 75 with plenty of stuff in the utility bed.... as to the 6.4 fuel mileage.... lots of new ones with 10K miles on them for sale due to fuel usage.... how does 10 MPG on the hyw unloaded sound to you?

13.5 in town unloaded, 15-17 mpg highway unloaded between 65-75 mph. Pulling a 10k load (enclosed trailer) it drops to 9.5 mpg at 72 mph. I have 17k miles and it is bone stock on 16 inch tires.

11-14 in town, 15-18 on the highway at 70+. Plenty of power anda very nice ride for such a large truck.

14-16 freeway not towing, 12-14 towing 10K 5er, 11-14 around town.. of course that is if I can keep my foot out of it and drive NICE AND EASY. Which I can not seem to do to often...

My boss got a 6.4 that is his and that he uses for work. Thing gets crap mileage. It seems any newer diesel (6.4 and LMM) truck is going to have crappier mileage. Go with the LMM, or, if mileage is the factor find an older Duramax.

I drive 61.7 mile one way a day. I have not gotten better than 18mpg. That is driving at 60-65. I wish I know how to get better. Trust me big trucks pass me at stop signs when I take off. Trying to save all the fuel I can. I have 23,000 on my truck. Does it get any better?

any truck with a DPF sucks for mpg but i would bet from what ive heard the LMM is a bit better than a 6.4

there is one in the local selling paper for 41K, paid 51K for it , has 3,3xx miles, auto 4x4, F250.

I have heard that the ford is terrible on mileage.

Also, the magazines say the d-max is the easiest to delete the DPF. good luck!

consider yourself lucky... my DRW 4x4 got 17.1mpg on a recent 1100 mile all highway trip, doing no more than 65mph, and most of it at 62mph with no load (alright, a 350lb motorcycle in the bed on the return leg). its only got about 9K miles on the odo, but still, i was hoping on that kind of trip to touch 19 or 20. this is DIC, but backed up by hand calc.

still, that being said, the truck is so much nicer than anything else, its a compromise i can live with. that little motorcycle i picked up gets 80mpg
