Hello,

Was just at the dealership having my oil changed and was looking at 2007 3/4 Duramax. When I looked into the side window I noticed that the gearbox shifter was (manual) and on the floor near the accelerator pedal.

Hum?

ya if they don't order the electric 4x4 option, it still gets the old floor shifter.....my guess is someone screwed up.

What makes you say someone screwed up?? If the truck is ordered in a WT or LS (or maybe even the new LT1 :p: ) that is how it is suposed to be. The shifter is on the floor and not a convenient push button.

I have learned that both systems are electrical anyhow. I've had the push button style go on my '00 2500 and on my 95 i had a floor shifter that even though if felt like it engaged it didn't work. My mechanic said even though it seems mechanical its still electrical anyhow and will not work without electronics. What ever happened to simple mechanics :confuzeld where everything didn't need to "communicate" to eachother. I like simple... thats always easy find/fix problems

The NP1 electrically actuated transfer case is not available on WT or LS; optional on LT1; standard on LT2 & LT3.

Actually, on a manual (floor shift transfer case), the transfer case itself is manual (mechanical linkage connects to shift arm on transfer case), but the front axle engagment is electrical. This is how GM floor shift transfer case's have been for a long time. My old truck (94 Suburban) was this same way. I think its even been like that since before that, 15 years or older. So in your 95 when you pulled the lever the transfer case was in fact engaged and the front driveshaft was spinning but the front differential was not engaged. You may have had the old electric-vacuum style in the 95 which they sold a replacment electric motor for, i replaced my 94's when it failed after like 200000 miles.

I thought it was thermally actuated with a rod?

reason I ask is because my friend had a beater 1988 Chevy that we put 35's on (no lift, cut the fender wells) and beat the hell out of it offroad...we had the front end 2 feet in the air coming over jumps...IFS didnt miss a beat!! The actuator went out so he said he just jammed a rod into something in the front axle so it was permanently engaged.

it was Thermally Actuated. Which is why it sucked lol. I remember all the times my dads truck wouldnt engage when we were out in the cold deer hunting. It makes you wonder what kind of idiot engineer thought of that system and what idiot at GM even allowed that idea to fly.

It was actually a resevoir filled with some kind of fluid that would expand when current hit it. This would push the rod in and engage the front axle. Then IIRC in 99, GM went with an all electric stepper motor that would do the same thing and be more dependable. Rancho at one time or another used to sell these actuators. I used one to replace one on my 95 1500 and have not had a problem since. i could be wrong but I believe that GM is still using the same actuator to this day.

My bad yeah it was thermally actuated, I dunno why i said vacuum, It would take like 5 seconds to get 4wd. GM came out with a retrofit kit at some put the replaced the thermal system with a stepper motor and that is what i replaced my 94 with. My 94s stopped working during the biggest snow storm of that winter, just my luck, had to leave the truck at a friends house becuase it wouldnt even make it through my street, these trucks cant even move in snow without 4wd.

I orderd my truck with the manual 4x4 shifter, and my truck is a SLE. The transfer case is fulley manual, but the front end is electrec. My last truck was push button and I nearly froze to deth because of the pice of shi*!

I ordered the manual in my '06 LT3.Got tired of having the light on the push button blink at me when it didnt want to work,on my old '04.

If it had cost more, I would have gladly paid the difference to get the manual shifter over the electric actuated transfer case. I special ordered my truck, and made sure that I got the manual shift case.

LT1 Reg cab here and I special ordered it with manual shift and vinal floors......but all the other bells and wistles other than onstar and XM(shoulda got XM I think) so someone might not have "screwed up" ;)

How did you get an LT3 with manual transfercase? I thought LT3 came with bose and center console and thus no floor shift 4x4. That's the only way I was able to order my LT3, because I yelled and screamed about not being able to get the full boat interior without the pos push button I'm stuck with.

he is mistaken im 99.9% sure.;)

there is "no way" to get an LT3 with the manual transfer case. LT3 (what an LT used to be:rolleyes: ) requires the Bose stereo and full feature (AN3) seats. Both of those REQUIRE the center console. With a center console you cannot have the floor manual shifter.

I have one in my 03', the wierd thing is, I have automatic/electronic climate control and no push button 4x4. I thought that was supposed to be on the LT model.
Mine is manual shift t case and tranny. I also have the auto dual climate control. Too bad I couldn't get leather.

Ordered my truck with a manual tcase shifter, too, and would have got manual hubs if GM offered them.

just a question...

how many of you have actually had a 2001+ electronic system fail and leave you stranded?

Not trying to start a flame war, but can help but think that at least a few people's oppinions are formed on pure ignorance....like the same Dodge and Ford guys who laugh at IFS even tho they have never even looked at or touched a GM IFS setup, but say its weak and useless because the concept of IFS "seems" weak to them, so that means "it must be weak", I cant remember if there is a word for that "mentality" but you guys know what I mean :)
