Have a question, already searched here. I have a 2005 lly and looking to replace the engine. I found a 2006 lly but the egr system looks totally different. Are the cylinder heads the same between the 2 years? What will have to be changed for me to make this work? Thanks guys!

a 2006 LLY is actually a detuned LBZ. whether or not any of the metal pieces are interchangeable I cannot say, but the electronics are different
as are a lot of the overall design, such as compression ratio, different pistons, etc.

The 04.5/05 LLY has a 16 bit computer, the 06 LLY has the LBZ's 32 bit computer. IIRC the injectors run on different voltages.

this is why there is why the 06 LLY is included in the LBZ forum right above the LLY forum here on DP

someone will correct me if i am wrong, but i believe you can use the bottom end of the newer lly/lbz motor, just not the heads due to different injectors and electrical stuff. if you need heads, you will need heads from the 04.5-05lly

Hey Frankenstein where did you get those diesel exempt stickers? We don't have diesel inspection in NJ, and the cops stop you for no inspection sticker. If we had them it would save the cops and us some inconvenience, sorry for the hijack.

Those were issued by the state of Alaska when the IM/smog program was still in effect, but it has since gone away, fortunately. Its just leftover on my windshield.
