hi i have a 2005 duramax 40,000 miles, i was on a road trip the other day, when this truck started limiting itself to 65 mph and when i pulled over put it in park it wouldnt rev up past 2000rpm. when i turned the truck off and restarted it, it had no problems at all. I changed the fuel filter after this just as a precautionary measure. just tying to figure out what this might be before i have to go back on the road. I run an antigel religiously and the current filter at the time had around 3000 miles on it since it was last changed.

thanks in advance

You will need to scan for codes. Sounds to me like it is going into a limp home mode table in the ECM.

you went into limp mode....most likely a 1093 code which is low fuel pressure during power enrichment.....mine used to do that all of the time with my power mods....changing the fuel filter will help this. Do you have any power mods?

Well its likely just the dirty fuel filter that caused it. The shim mod will only help if your fuel pressure relief valve is weak which would also cause it.

Mine was doing the same thing......look in to the shim mod easy to do and it works . Mine was going in to limp mod every time no matter it was chipped or not. shim mod fixed it. Haven't had a problem yet,and I'v tried to get to limp a couple

Have you had the EGR checked? My EGR went bad @ 30k. First dealer tried to clean it didn't work, took back in and got new EGR. (No high rpm, no power)

I would start with the fuel filter. Then if that does not correct it, scan the codes before chasing your tail with every suggestion out there and shooting in the dark. The codes, if set, will give you direction as the where to start next.

I had the same problem. It was a dirty fuel filter. 300O miles later and no problems.

Is the engine light on? I just had mine the shop for a similar issue. They said it had a bad injector and injector harness. I think the injector was fine and the harness connector was bad. There is a lot of info on this site about this. If your truck is out of the 36K warranty do not let them who do you. It should be covered under the 100K engine warranty.

it's not your filter, shim mod will likley fix it, it;s your regulator

Just because he only has 3k miles on the filter - doesn't mean it isn't plugged from a bad batch of fuel...

If it were me I would do the easiest thing first - change the fuel filter.

BTW, mine limped at 3k miles with a plugged fuel filter... :)

Most likely the regulator is lifting, in other words a P1093. Good chance you were quickly lifting in and out of the throttle at the time, like starting to go then changing your mind then suddenly nailing it, quick throttle position changes aggravate weak FPRV's and bring on 1093's.

There will be no CEL (Check Engine Light) but there will be a definite 2000 RPM limit enforced. It just so happens that 65 MPH is at that RPM, the speed is not actually limited, just the RPM. You can always get out of this one by killing the truck and starting again, but its a PIA and the real fix will be either a new FPRV and hope you get a stronger spring in it or do the shim mod or install a race FPRV. I would prefer the shim mod to retain ultimate safety just in case ;)
