The general warranty on my '02 LB7 expires in about 3 weeks. It seems to be running fine since I bought it 9 months ago, but I went to the dealership this morning to find out what it would cost for them to check the engine to make sure there are no problems existing or developing....and I dont mind paying the fee if everything is ok. They want about 100 bucks.

The service guy said really all they can do without major disassembly is scan the engine (should reveal any injector or pump problems, poor cylinders etc) and give it an all-over visual inspection (should reveal any leaks, etc).
At this point I will assume any problems they find (except belts, hoses etc) can be repaired free of charge under warranty.

So I have 2 questions. The $100 isnt a major issue - its the cost of a tank of fuel - but I'm wondering if its about normal in the industry? And I would hope they will absorb the $100 if they DO find necessary warranty repairs.

More important though, is the scan and visual inspection enough? Should I be asking them to do any more than that? Bearing in mind it will just cost me more if they dont find anything wrong. Thanks

They are just going to look at the truck like you were buying it used, like you said its just a tank of fuel and it can save you tons down the road if they do happen to find anything.

At this point your truck is running fine...could do so for many years.

$100 is a good investment to have the "dealer" perform a basic check that would identify any current or potential problems that could be addressed while warranty is still in effect.

Good peace of mind !! And every dealer will charge for this service / inspection...$100 sounds reasonable.

Your injectors should still be covered until 2009 / 320,000kms ??

The 5 yr/100,000 mile engine warranty has a $100 deductable, so even if they find something wrong covered by warranty, you are still going to pay $100.

Tests to perform

Someone on this site said to have the dealer do two tests done, first check the balance rates and secondly, have them measure the injector return flow tests done just prior to warranty end.

I don't know what any of that means, but that's what I will do at 95K miles.
