I posted a bit about this on the what have you done today thread, but I'm going to keep it in its own thread now.
This popped up about a 1/2 mile down the road from me. The guy had it listed at $1400. I went to see it and it wouldn't start. Was getting fuel, but just wasn't catching. He said $800 as is our $1000 of he got it running. I told him if think it over while I ran some errands. He texted me a video of it running 20 minutes later. I'm guessing he used the can of ether that was in the truck that he wrote was from the previous owner.... Anyway, ran well, good oil pressure, a little blowby, but not bad at 241k miles. I decided to take a chance and attempt to fix her up and sell her. I gave him the $1000.

Good:

-glowshift gauges in a 4 gauge a-pillar pod: Boost, transmission temp, air pressure(?) and an empty spot.
-Trans reportedly had a bad front seal that was just replaced.... doesn't leak now.
-Runs, drives, stops... probably worth a grand right there
-Clean frame and floors
-All gauges work
-All interior and dash lights converted to blue LED... not my style, but will make it easy to sell
-High idle switch on dash
-Torque converter lockup switch on dash
  • Mystery switch on dash
  • No nice paint to worry about scratching
-4WD
-G80 rear end
- Headlights are good
-Turn signals and running lights are all converted to LED

Bad:

-Rot on some door bottoms and barn doors have some rot on the bottoms
-rot on rocker under passenger rear door
-Needs a new driver door and fender.. someone backed up with the door open
-Tires are crap on aftermarket Vision wheels
-Glow plug harness was not connected to a couple of the passenger side plugs and was the original harness, I think. I'm guessing that was the hard start issue.
-The hood stack. Jesus. What is wrong with people? So... no exhaust and needs a hood
- Front bumper and grill are crap
-Driver side spray painted white.. ???
-Driver seat needs repair or replacement
-Stupid cone filter on turbo, no air cleaner assembly
-AC delete (might be considered a good thing?)

So that's the beginning.

Getting the new shoes on soon. Those wheels up front are OBS Ford Alcoas with 235-85-r16. If I had a full set of tires for them, I'd just sell her with those. But I've only got 2 and one of the wheels is going to be the spare for my K3500. So the aftermarket wheels and 1 of the Alcoas will go with the Suburban with the new BFGs on them.

Slight change in plans... found a good set of Michelin LT245-75-16 10 ply all seasons for $200, so I'm going to put those on and sell the BFGs for a good profit. The BFGs are over $300 each and I have 5 virtually new ones. So..... they might pay for the doors I need.

Nice score! (y)
Got the new rear shocks installed this morning. The old ones were crap, but still better than the fronts.

The tool to remove the barn door hinge pins came in today. When I get a new set, I'll let you guys know how it works.

New shoes are on. Michelin 10 ply load range E all seasons. Dry rotted a bit, but real good tread in the front and ok tread in the back.

The mystery switch might be for the lift pump. Blue LED's are 🤮. Looking good. You keep this up you might end up with sumthin worth sumthin
Yeah, I'll have to trace that switch and find out what it is. And once I get a new driver door and maybe barn doors.... she'll be worth a whole lot more than I have into her.

Been lazy on the Suburban for the last week and some. I did locate a clean set of barn doors for $225, so I'm going to pick them up Saturday. I'm also going to replace the lift pump and troubleshoot the returned hard start. I'm not sure it's coming on during cranking. I'll get my coworker to give me a hand so I can check it. I might do the lift pump relay harness. Already put a new OPS in there.

And a nice front bumper with air holes just popped up on the marketplace here in my town, so if the guy gets back to me, I'll scoop it up.

Picked up that bumper today. It's in great shape and only $80. Now I just have to massage the brackets back into place.....ugh.

Picked up the barn doors this morning. They look good. 1 little dent, but no rot at all. Now I have to remove the pins and get them mounted. But it's raining and will be all day.... so that's tomorrow.

These $%#@!×÷+&*)? Hinge pins in the barn doors. I got them out of 1 door, but of course the screw in the tool I bought snapped off on the 2nd door. I'll finish it tomorrow. Don't try using this tool without some heat. I got the map gas torch out and I could definitely use an oxyacetylene torch.... the big problem is keeping the tool aligned properly to push the pin out straight. I can't wait to get them done so i never have to do it again. Of course, I still have to get the ones on the truck out...

Ok..a whole lot of cutting and heating, but the pins are all out. I just ordered new pins and I just set the doors in place for now. I'll massage out that dent in the driver side door later... and I don't care about the color.... this is definitely going to be a work truck.

Looking good!
Got 1 of the 2 hinge pin kits in today and hung the passenger door.... left the pins loose in case I have to move it... should have done driver door first... oh well. Other pins coming tomorrow. Hopefully they line up and are happy....

Got the hinge pins all installed today and did my best to tweak the driver door into place, but it keeps wanting to be a little misaligned. The gap up to on the left is to small. I banned and pulled on the hinges to try to get it straight, but it's still a little off. Everything works, though. So I'm gonna call it good, rather than risk breaking something.

Ok, got a little busy and backlogged. Picked up a flight systems PMD and relocation kit that someone had

from Leroy. I’ll get that installed sometime soon. Pulled the busted driver seat and tore it down. Worse than I thought…I’ll be looking for a replacement instead of trying to fix this one.

Also, went ahead and spent the $10 for a new ac

Delco fuel filter lock ring.

The filter on the truck was one of those plastic housing ones so I couldn’t install the new metal top filter I had ready…
