So I am kicking around an idea and am looking for some tips ...

My front 10 bolt housing is blown to bits (thanks po) so instead of rebuilding I decided it was a good time to upgrade and picked up a Dana 60 front from a 92 Dodge W250 (I know the spring perches don’t line up, Offroad Design sells an adapter kit that corrects this). Problem is it’s missing the hubs (complete to spindles) ...

Done a ton of research and used srw hubs are impossible to find (junkyard dana 60s are also very rare to nonexistent in my area), and new ones are very pricey (possibly due to demand?).

Drw dana 60 hubs however, appear to be plentiful and affordable. As far as I can tell, the only difference between the drw and srw Dodge dana 60s are the hubs.

But then there’s the rear axle. My truck already has a srw ff 14 bolt axle under it. No idea what truck it came from but the issue of “how do you mount a 1 ton 14 bolt under a 1/2 truck” is already solved, because it’s already there.

If I put drw hubs on the dana 60 then my next question is, how do I convert a srw ff 14 bolt to a drw ff 14 bolt? I’ve done a lot of research and haven’t seemed to find any solid answers. Everything from adapters to hubs to drums to confusion over the axle width etc.

As far as why I want to do this, well, because I want to ...

I’ve always gotten really good feedback on this site so I thought I’d turn to here and ask y’all: how do you convert a srw ff 14 bolt to a drw ff 14 bolt?

We went through this process a few years back, no easy answer. The carrier that you have does not have the correct spindles, nor backer-plates (inner wheel contacts). Possibly a disc brake conversion would allow the inner rim to fit. With all the swapping around of the pieces that we had on hand, we were not able to do the conversion. Finally purchased a short-bus, and used the differential out of it. We were a RWD, and initially used a set of Fred's adapters to bring our front wheels out, until the OEM parts were also sourced for the front end. If you do get this to work, we are sub'd, post lots of pics.....J&J.

Will do thankyou for the fast reply. Will be a while before I start, just in the planning phase now but will update when I get started.

just get the proper housing, along with the proper axles, and use all your parts, or just find the proper diff....

I looked into this, the short answer is it is impossible. Or possible but expensive piecing together.

Your either better off finding a cab and chassis DRW, and modifying your bed inner fenders, or getting a set of outer fenders and the truck version DRW.

Probably would be less work involved to just get a drw rear axle. They’re plenty to be found too.

I would skip all the work and just throw the duals on the srw axle, a set of D***e flippy mirrors and roolll.

It'll be a smidge wide!!

The main housings are the same drw to srw but everything backing plate out needs swapping if done correctly, possibly the axles too depending on the next bit cause .... Now be warned that there is 2 different widths of dually, standard dually and can and chassis. C&C has the narrowest tire width.

I'd link Bill Vista's 14b bible but I'm on by itard ATM.

What are you finding for srw 60 front hub prices?

It's my understanding that a 'pickup bed' DRW axle is slightly wider than a SRW.

You can take those dual wheel hubs and have the dually flange turned down.
This is my understanding. I've ran across a similar thread on pirate 4x4.
Hubs for the Chevy are also impossible to find. One of the threads detailed how the guy had his hubs turned down at a machine shop to go from drw to single.
Apparently once that flange is removed the hub is identical.

the "sanford and son" in our sig carries over to all aspects, not just making Da power...LOL....

the rear diffs all have different lengths of tubes/spindles; as per the 14 bolt bible, the vans used a bit deeper hub-end, but its still not enough to allow for the duals, they still contact the spring packs and inner fender-well, i have tried to put duals on our crewcab, which uses the widest version available in SRW; the 19.5 wheels would go onto/over the hub ribbing, but contact the inner and spring pack, if a guy used a 1.5" spacer it would be remotely possible, but id never want to haul anything in the back... the only way i can see the 16" wheels fitting is to remove the drum, and machine off all the cooling fins smooth plus extra materials....

Since I’ve got to completely redo my front axle anyways, I figured why not let this be the opportunity to do the dually conversion. But it’s looking like my best option will be to find a set of dually axles and adapt them to my truck.

You need the full diff, carrier and all.....

Yes, the drw housing is set up the widest.
