I have a 2005 3500 duramax with a predator programmer set to 65hp forever, and 4 inch exhaust no converter. It has 55k miles on it. Two weeks ago it began hesitating and running like crap. I changed the filter all good. Today it went into limp mode again, would not rev past 2k, wth no check engine light. I pulled the codes and had a 1093, and egr codes as usual due to the exhaust.

So the question is is the filter plugged again after only 500 miles or so or is something else the culprit. Its hard to belive I have that much crap in my tank but you never know. Any help is appreciated.

i would say you need a fuel shim kit. ppe makes both a shim kit and a race valve you could do either or. i would say that would be a cheap fix to your problem. you could also do a lift pump but thats a little more costly.

I had mine do the same thing awhile back with the Predator on 65. Cleared the code and it has not happened since. Don't know what the problem was.

i dont need a shim kit or lift pump becuase it has never been a problem until now, have been running the predator since new. It has been really cold here about 5 degrees and am thinking maybe the fuel was gelling up. I will park it overnight in my heated garage and see if it goes away. I just taked to a friend who said that the station I fuel up at is using a bio-diesel blend and he has been having problems with his work trucks since the weather change.

Why did mine start at 43,000 miles??? Had an Edge on it since it was nearly new. I don't know....I suspect the spring got weaker over time???

Sounds good. I'm going to park it inside tonight and see if the problem goes away, but I quess I'll do the shim kit too, I take it just replacing the fprv will only fix the problem for a while if you dont shim it out.

Go to a truck stop and buy some Howes Fuel Conditioner put a few ounces in you tank at every fillup...problem solved.
NOT. I run Howes in nearly every tank.

Cold weather will aggravate the situation PLUS running with restriction makse it worse. I've seen this many times where all is well then the 1093 hits with 5k on filter. Change filter and all is well for a 2-3k and hits again. Then it doesn't go away. Restriction causes it, lift pumps cure it and the relief valve may be damaged in the process necessitating the shim mod or valve replacement...

That's my take on it. Pressure cycling is the culprit. Removing the restriction (add lift supply) is the answer. Shimming will help the 1093, but your pressure will still be loopy unless you remove the restriction.

ok, thanks. Ill give you a call tomarrow to get some parts ordered. So what are saying that even in stock form they have a fuel supply restriction due to the system being on vacuum and that the lift pumps will provide enough fuel to the injection pump to ensure adequate pressure. Then on my truck that is starting to have issues only gets worse when the filter gets dirty and causes any amount of restriction.

So if I were to go back to stock just replacing the fprv would fix the problem until the valve failed again and did not allow enough fuel to be returned back to the tank-- being a hugh restriction.

Turned out to be the fuel gelling. Parked in inside my heated garage for a few hours took it out in 5 degree weather for 50 miles and it was flawless. Spoke with station where I was getting fuel and was informed he is running a bio-diesel blend with ultra low sulfur. Guess I should just stick to regular diesel and put some standyne in for the winter.

I've had several issues lately with my 06 GMC 3500 throwing the 1093. I've had 2 different dealerships replace the FPRV, and it seems OK (for now). I realize that pulling heavy trailers through the mountains is going to require either a shim or race valve. I had no problems up until 70,000 miles, and now its gone out twice on me in 5000 miles, even with a filter change out.

I'm reading horror stories about ruining a fuel rail in the vise. Is it a safer bet just to install a race valve? Can anyone offer more details on this please?

Mine started this at 25,000 miles and the fuel filter life was still around 60%. Really irritating and I'm in Georgia. Cold mornings here are in the 20s and 30s at the coldest.
