I got a quote from a dealer for a 2007 GMC Sierra CLASSIC 2500HD, Crew Cab, long box, Duramax/Allison, pickup, SLT 4SA. Quote came in at 41,xxx and sticker was 47k.

Doesn't sound like a half bad deal, especially given the new 5 year/100k mile warranty the 2007's are coming with, and the kind of mileage the Duramax's are pulling down.

But, with all of this talk about emissions equipment that has to go on these trucks for 2007, I'm not sure if it's a good time to buy one. Used 06's really aren't that much lower in price, and don't come with the new warranty. Thus the reason I'm contemplating actually buying new.

I was wondering though, I heard that the emissions applied to any truck BUILT after January 1, 2007, so if the one I found on a lot, that had a build date of late 2006 sometime, would have all the extra emissions crap on it?

Thanks to Checkmate for telling me about this place.

no, the trucks that are getting the emmisions crap are the 07 new style gmt900 trucks. all the classics are only going to have the cat on it. not the dpf.so you should be plenty safe.
Awesome! Thanks for the information! It sounds like they're offering me a decent deal, without my having even made a counter offer as of yet. Only thing I'm sketchy on is the tan interior in a black truck, and the lack of cab lights. I may have to go for this one though.

07

I purchased an 07 Silverado 4x4, when I went for plates I asked about emission test. Here in Indiana, they said I would have to go to the test site only to have the inspectors verify that it was a diesel and not a gasser. Not sure what they'll do for the new 07's.
41K sounds pretty good. I got a 07 Chevy classic CC, SB. for 42K with a 49K sticker.

If you have good credit ask to see the invoice sheet and pay 100 to 200 over that plus rebates.
I dont buy unless i can see that sheet.

The only downside is I'll be buying from Iraq, as this is where I'm working (non-military this time) and won't be home for vacation till March. I'll have to see if they'll scan that in for me. I made a post requesting that information (invoice) from the "elvis" fellow in another forum on here. :) I don't know if credit will make a difference, for me. Not sure if I'm going to bother with financing or not. Thanks for the info.

Hell.........If you have cash then you should only pay invoice plus rebates. If that dealer won't show it to you then walk to another dealer that will.
Money Talks.....

That's what I'm thinking. Oddly the last time I bought a vehicle (my '99 SS Camaro) the dealers hated the idea that I didn't want to let them finance it. (I had secured financing already.) They swore they could beat my rate, and gave me the run around hoping I'd let them try. WEIRD.

I might be missing something here, please correct me or eduacte me...

Invoice is what the DEALER paid for it, correct? Then why would they want to sell it to you for 100 to 200 more than that?!?! Not much of a profit margin........

What am i missing? Thanks.

I just purchased a '07 CCSB4x42500HD. About the same deal as you....I got the GM Supplier discount plus $1500 cash back rebate. I was very pleased w/ the deal since it was handled over the phone....I drove in to sign the paperwork and take delivery....in and out in less than 30 min.
I did see the invoice and the supplier discount was 400 less than their price. GM reimburses them the $400 plus the standard hold-back $$. The salesman generally get a flat $100 for his effort.
Sounds like you are getting a real good deal.....

The invoice price is what the salespeople work from. I have never paid more than $100 over invoice (minus any rebates) for any truck I have bought. The dealers pay a wholesale price for the truck then comes employee price then invoice then GMS then retail (MSRP) price. You can get the invoice price when you build one on Edmunds site. If you salesperson won't show you the invoice find one that will. The mark up from wholesale to invoice is about the same as the mark up from invoice to retail (MSRP)

In the case of most dealer floor plans the invoice price is the most the dealer will ever have to pay for that vehicle. In most cases the dealer pays a percentage below the "invoice" price. How much is generally based on how long that vehicle is in the dealers hands. The quicker the dealer turns over the vehicle the more money they save on their actual price which is usually invoice -some% called the holdback.
In the case of my deal, GM Supplier discount, it was $400 below the invoice price. As I said...because it is a GM program...the General will pay the deler the $400.

I am speaking in very general terms here. This is not exactly how every franchise operates but the premise it the same for most of them. There is above the line dollars and cents and below the line dollars and cents. Understanding this helps you understand how the dealers make money....all the while keeping at away from the salesman...

If you work for a company that offers consumer purchace programs.....you can get some very good deals....Check them out!!

Not weird if you understand the game. Dealers prefer you finance because if you finance with GMAC, they still get their money up front, plus they get a percentage of the financing.

Nope. I'm half tempted to see if they can *cringe* install them (cab lights) before I take delivery if I decide to buy it.

Tom
Hope you have better luck with that than I did. I've got the exact same truck, and the dealer wouldn't touch it for marker lights. There are several here who've done it, and even a link or two to some pictorial project reports. I may try it yet, but haven't the guts to do it yet.

edit: tophog did it here.

Dealer just tried to tell me I was about 1400 off on the invoice price I was given here. ;) Waiting for a response to my request for a copy of the invoice, which I doubt he's going to show me. Then tried to act like I wasn't going to buy, because I wouldn't be home until March, so he'd "get back to me around March to let me know if he still had the truck."

Umm, if I'm inquiring NOW, there's a reason. I have somebody back home who has access to whatever assets I give them access to, just for this sort of thing. Let him know he can either give it to me at the price I want to pay, or I'll keep looking. :)

This site is great, I'm loving it!

Exactly....There is hidden money the dealer gets for selling vehicles. Paying invoice or 100 bucks over is a really good deal. Dealers hate it because they loose money but that money is yours there gaining from. Don't give it to them if you don't have to.
